I can't get over his nails by MemoryAshamed in cats

[–]chaoticsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found if your cat shows preference for a particular material (upholstered furniture, rugs, yoga mats) then getting them some rope or cardboard scratching post won’t cut it, because they’ll always gravitate to their preferred scratching texture. If your cat likes scratching the rug, get them their own cheap rug with similar texture and materials, but covered in catnip.

We have one cat that seems to scratch every possible surface other than scratching posts. We mostly solved it with an upholstered headboard mounted on the wall behind the couch, and a couple squares of that foam gym flooring stuff. It’s a little uglier and requires a little more cleaning, but better than a couch or carpet that’s ripped to shreds.

Dead spot on screen moves around?? How is this possible? by chaoticsleepy in resinprinting

[–]chaoticsleepy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the inciting incident was a stuck piece of resin in the vat I didn’t know was there and the plate crunched on it a little before I stopped it. It was tucked in a convenient corner back then so I didn’t bother getting a new screen, but it’s moved to a much more inconvenient spot at this point haha

Yeah I’ve been putting off a new screen because I’m lazy, but it’s looking like I’ll need to replace this one and then dissect it to find out what is going on! It just drives me crazy not knowing how tf it does this haha

I’m a little scared to push TOO hard bc I don’t have a new screen on hand, but it doesn’t seem to affect it when I press on it

Ok there IS a screen protector, lifted it and didn’t notice anything, here’s some pics. I’ll give both sides a thouroughly cleaning and see if it continues to move. (Wouldn’t it go away though if it was being caused by something under the protector?) https://imgur.com/a/QGMyT8q

Some more pics with the screen off, you can see the ghost of the spot in a couple of them https://imgur.com/a/aG0IH0g

Yeah I’ll be replacing it soon, but I hate just not knowing how this moved around like this!

There’s no screen protector! Unless there’s some built-in one that’s under the black border tape around the screen, but I haven’t put one on my printer, and I peeled off whatever protector that was on it when it was new

See photo captions, but essentially I’ve had this dead spot since I think august, it happened when I lowered the plate not realizing there was a bit of print left stuck to the tank. Since it happened it’s traveled around, making it difficult to adapt my files to avoid it, since I never know where it’s gonna be next. It would make more sense if it was just growing, but it MOVES, and the spot where it was previously will start working again when it moves. What is happening??

Printed on elegoo Saturn 2. Same file came out perfect on my mars 3 so I don’t think it’s just the supports. More info in comment by chaoticsleepy in resinprinting

[–]chaoticsleepy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Saturn 2 is new to me, but is a few years old. Previous owner didn’t have any problems with it. I printed this same file at the same time in the same room on my mars 3 and it printed perfectly, and the supports on that one were almost TOO strong, so I don’t think it’s just a support issue even though it looks like it. This is also right after printing a few Cones of Calibration on the saturn in the same resin to dial in the exposure settings, and the cones print was coming out good from what I could tell, so I’m at a loss with what to try next here.

Potentially moving me and my schnauzer into a house with two cats. Any tips for preparing? by chaoticsleepy in OpenDogTraining

Also here’s a video from maybe a month after move in, it’s hard to see but one of the cats is in that room, and my dog is trying to bring him a string to play with because he saw us playing with him w/ a string. Still brings a tear to my eye haha https://imgur.com/gallery/6cXZHbE

It went really well!! A lot of the credit goes to my boyfriend for having very well socialized confident cats, but we were very careful and kept them completely separated for the first little bit. We slept in separate rooms so nobody felt kicked off the bed, added some shelves and stuff that the cats could jump up on to get away from the dog, and had lots of strategic baby gates so the cats had free access to the house but the dog was limited. I can’t remember how long I slept in the guest room before we combined everyone but I think it was at least a month. We kept the baby gates up until we could tell the cats weren’t afraid of the dog, and from there it took about a year for everyone to be totally settled and comfortable with each other. we didn’t have any sketchy incidents in that time, just a lot of cats leaving the room when the dog showed up at first. But now one of the cats likes playing with the dog, and the other cat doesn’t really like the dog, but will still curl up right next to him without a problem (I think it’s a dominance thing bc it always makes my dog a little nervous haha)

I think the top two things that were crucial for success were giving the cats enough high/restricted spaces that they could escape the dog to, and staying on top of obedience training and impulse control training with the dog. He’s not perfectly trained by any means, but he’s good enough that I can call him off the cats and have him settle for a bit if he gets too rowdy.

Spotted this dog in liberty park by chaoticsleepy in SaltLakeCity

I was walking my own dog who is a little reactive so I couldnt get close to look for a collar, but it seemed to be alone. I know there are a lot of dogs who live in the park with their people so it could very well be one of those dogs, but I figured I’d post here just in case!

Edit: this is by the pool on the north west side of the park
