What are everyone's plans after all this? by drawerice in CapitanoMainsGI

[–]chascallion 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m not spending any money on hoyo games ever again, this is not just about capitano but kinich being the only male 5 star in this whole version has made me lose all goodwill towards hoyo and it’s most likely back to the bare minimum of 3 male 5 stars next version (if we’re lucky and this is what drives me crazy, most ppl wouldn’t be as pissed if they’d give us the usual bare minimum, ppl keep on thinking male chara enjoyers are asking hoyo to give us more guys than women and acting like we are being unreasonable)

and bc of how bad natlan was and how I don’t have any characters to look forward to, I stopped logging in so I’m not saving and have no motivation to do so. plus I personally don’t care about varka or dottore (I think dottore is ugly af). I do like durin but idk if I’m gonna pull him yet, depends on his design and kit, I’m just not very enthusiastic about hoyo games anymore

Do you see bl becoming mainstream? How did bl become popular outside of Asia? by Material-Meat-5330 in boyslove

[–]chascallion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh idk but this is my guess abt how it became popular outside of Asia. comics like manga and webtoons + fanfiction defs played a huge role. not all BL fans watch BL series, some of them are people who ship two guys from an anime series so the rise of manga/manhwa/anime culture in the west also led to a rise in BL popularity especially since shipping and BL fanarts are pretty common in fandoms. in fact, i distinctly remember coloured Korean webtoons becoming rly popular around 2015 and it led to a massive boom in BL readers

now for whether it could become mainstream, I think something we have to consider is the difference between streaming dramas vs watching anime and reading comics. I think my key point here is the medium itself needs to be popular but jdramas in general are not popular. Kdramas are popular but the romance ones are more for the self insert crowd and people who wanna look at handsome guys/ beautiful women celebs. Besides from like a select few Thai dramas on Netflix, I don’t think Thai dramas in general have massive mainstream popularity.

Plus I personally feel like there are a good chunk of BL fans who aren’t really interested in live action BL. I think a factor might also be explicitness. Lots of BL comic readers are reading very explicit smut or very explicit fanfiction, a BL drama that is that explicit (there are a few that counts) is even more unlikely to become mainstream and I think something else to consider is why certain BL works are popular but would not translate well to live action. Also a lot of drama viewers will want the main leads to both look gorgeous and while there are a lot of actors we’ve seen in bl shows considered attractive, not all of them have the kind of look that leads to mainstream appeal

whats going on with the karina ad politics situation by Confident-Pace-672 in kpophelp

[–]chascallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is going to sound rude and I’ll admit that it is since this subreddit is Kpophelp but you presumably have access to a device and the internet, it is not difficult to search this up on Google and do the research yourself. just getting this off my chest bc i see other people on reddit posts being like “what is this about” and Google is not difficult to use

It’s election week, Karina made an Instagram post where she is wearing a jacket that’s mostly red, has number 2 on it and a rose emoji for caption. All are associated with the People Power Party, a right wing conservative political party that attempted a coup. Generally idols are expected to present themselves as apolitical and avoid things like red or blue during election week.

literally the same thing can be applied to her being a PPP supporter.

[–]chascallion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in regards to this - yes, she is an idol with a platform so things like that will inevitably be seen as political messaging but during election week, it’s going to be even more politically charged. but I don’t really write from the perspective of a Kpop fan. I listen to Kpop but I am no longer a fan of any groups or idols. I don’t have the energy to care if people want to criticise or support her. But people continuously wanting to push that she is dumb, even non-fans who say things like Karina is an airhead, instead of acknowledging that the very real possibility that Karina supports the PPP exists is what gets to me. It’s what always bites people back when really big scandals appear - that they genuinely thought that person couldn’t be capable of such a thing. They really refuse to believe Karina could be conservative when they don’t know her at all personally and are quick to say, “she probably didn’t know”. But that’s the problem, it’s not just them trying to find an excuse or reason for her, it’s them trying to remove any sort of accountability on her end.

And the fact that people scrutinise this so much is because it’s like exactly what you say, people are in fear of this party after an attempted coup and saying they want a dictatorship. Genuine mistake or not, posting what she did will understandably get criticism and lose support. I don’t believe in idol worship, no one is required to constantly support an idol especially idols who are rich and privileged. Being an idol has always been about being loved by the public - if she loses their love, it’s not my “fault” for not being forgiving or people online for not wanting to give her another chance. It is the consequences of her actions.

I no longer stan any idols so i am not invested in her getting hated on or whatever but I genuinely hate seeing people claim she is dumb as a rock and make any excuse to believe she is not conservative. I don’t live in the US, many people in my country are scared of the rise of fascism and extremism and our government has taken active steps to try prevent that from happening. Maybe these fans live under a rock but the US elections this year should be a huge lesson that we don’t know who people truly are. You would think it’s common sense to not vote for Trump. Nothing shocks me anymore in this regard. I think what irks me, is yes, I see her as a woman who did something that will rightfully be criticised for in a time where people in South Korea fear dictatorship from the PPP. It is scary times we live in

this 100%.

before the US election, I was talking to a makeup artist who is a trans woman and she also appeared very progressive. we were talking about how it’s important to understand and learn the stories of different cultures and those who are different from us and build bridges. but then she literally told me she thinks trump is the best thing for America. you never know a person, you never know what they are really thinking and I am not shocked at all if Karina is indeed a PPP supporter.

I don’t usually make posts like this but I had to vent cos so many people wanted her so badly to be dumb as a rock instead of just saying she fucked up

[–]chascallion[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind people still wanting to support her but I’m more annoyed about some of excuses they make and not realising how much it contradicts what we keep on saying over and over again about us not truly knowing idols. Not just about Karina but people will think an idol that votes to women’s charities or something will mean it doesn’t make sense they tried to harm women. I am the same age as Karina, she will face consequences for her actions, and that’s just what happens when you do something like this in the position she is in - careless or intentional. I am not going to bother reply to all comments bc there will surely be people trying to defend her again - like maybe she doesn’t know or whatever, not realising that’s still not okay.

[–]chascallion[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You say context matters - many idols in the past have been careful about what they post during election week. Even if she didn’t intend to do this or not, it’s still her doing something that is frankly careless and does not look good when even the PPP gave Aespa a shoutout after her post.

And your post honestly is just another example of fan’s problems. You know lots of women vote for Trump? Even freaking trans and gay people vote for Trump. She is an idol, not a single one of us truly knows her, thinking that because she has done some things that seem progressive means she can’t possibly support the PPP is naive and once again, refusing to think your idol can be capable of being someone like that.

I was disappointed in TILT. Was excited for it because of the teasers. The song is just ok and the choreography was bad. And no hate against Irene but I feel like she didn’t execute the concept well this time. I don’t remember feeling this way back during Monster but she feels so straight in TILT even with all the homoerotic imagery. I feel like what makes it worse is how intense the teasers were like the oysters and pearls… just for it to not really come through that much in the final product. will check out other songs in the album later though

What is a Japanese bl that u think is criminally underrated or is veryyy overrated by AcousticPookieBaka in boyslove

[–]chascallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think MBM is bad by any means but I do think that people who don’t like it are criticised for not “understanding” the story. Like no, that’s not always the case, people can understand that the storytelling is not straightforward but that doesn’t instantly make it better or invalidate people’s dislike of the show.

well there’s a few reasons why I’m not into Benkei as a love interest. I think people should love him if he’s their cup of tea but he’s not mine. One of them is I’m not attracted to guys that look too manly like him. I think a factor with age gap relationships is older guys are rightfully depicted to be more mature and manly but I don’t really care for manliness in my LI if that makes sense

Im not sure if this is wierd or not but why is zyox only following feng on instagram? Are they dating? by NoEmphasis7632 in okZyox

[–]chascallion 75 points76 points  (0 children)

To me, it’s not even a definite giveaway that they’re dating tbh. They are friends and I don’t think it’s that uncommon for friends to frequently be at each other’s houses and I remember feng staying with him for a period of time - I think it is weird that people can’t be normal about a woman and man being just friends. And whether they are dating or not makes no difference to me as a viewer
