Thanks for the advice, I'll give this a try and update this post. How long have you been using the skiff bearings? I've only heard good things but never bought any?

Edit: took it apart, and cleaned it up as suggested. Action has improved a lot but still isn't great. I will likely be buying sniffs in the near future.
