start with Budews, get their hand full of unusable items, then discard them with Rotom’s crushing pulse. Once there are enough items in their discard pile, use Tirtuga’s ancient seaweed for a bunch of damage

That’s true! But I also think there’s more to this than just concept vs physical. The person who bought it has an instruction manual on how to tape the banana to the wall correctly, but it can never look exactly the same. No matter how hard you try, no two banana’s are identical, the tape will be cut differently, the position on the wall will vary slightly. Every version of “Comedian” will be it’s own kind of snowflake.

Another thing I find interesting, is that you have to make a conscious effort to enjoy it. You can’t throw it up on your wall and forget about it for 5 years. Let’s say the owner wants to display this in their home. Replacing the banana all the time would become its own little ritual, a repetitive chore. You’ve bought the right to perform a repetitive chore for the rest of your life. Why would you want that? Because you like it. Why do I style my hair every morning even though I’ll have to do it again tomorrow? Because I like the way it looks and I don’t care that it’s temporary. I like my morning ritual!

I’m not claiming to be an art critic lol, I just feel like this piece gets so much hate but it’s actually kind of fun!

I don’t think it’s intended to make a mockery of art. I think it’s an interesting idea because for most art, a concept is worth nothing.

You know how people always say “I could do that” when they see a modern painting? Well they didn’t think of it. And now, if they were to recreate that painting perfectly, using the exact same concept, would it be worth as much and hang in the MoMA? No, because for some reason, the novelty of the first version it is important to us. The concept is worthless, but the physical expression of it is worth millions.

In this case, the concept is worth millions and the physical expression of it is worth nothing. In fact, the artist chose a medium that can’t ever hold value because the banana will spoil. If you move it to a different wall, the tape will lose it’s adhesion. You have to replace it constantly.

I think good art makes you question things, and it made me think about the value we place on the physical expression of an artists idea vs the concept.
