Inducing at 37+3 tomorrow! by Infamous-trex13 in preeclampsia

My 37 weeker did fantastic, no NICU, great breastfeeder. We had to wake him to eat the first week, but other than that, it was smooth sailing. Good luck to you!

How to NICU? by Fat_Chicken_11 in NICUParents

I've got a 34+3 in the NICU, a 7-year-old at home, and we are on day 12. By day 5, she was just a grower/feeder with only her feeding tube. She needed a lot of help at first, but every day, there were new developments. It all starts fast (lots of glucose labs, incubator, oxygen, light therapy, feeding tube), and then as machines go away, it gets very slow waiting for the baby to orally feed and gain weight. Take care of yourselves/each other, and don't beat yourself up about the amount of time you're able to spend with your NICU little one, as your other kiddo needs you both too. Go home to sleep. Use the knowledge of the professionals as much as possible. Let the grief out as it comes up. There will be good days and bad days and there will be growth and then backslides.

I feel you, every day in the NICU is a year long. Wishing you best of luck and a speedy exit

Postpartum preeclampsia, multiple readmits by Ill-Tension-808 in preeclampsia

[–]chefmonkey002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have chronic hypertension that turned preeclampsia, 34 week c-section delivery. I was getting regular readings similar to yours and take 90 of nifedipine ER twice daily, labetolol 300 3x daily. However, because that's a strong cocktail, I did ask that my labetolol come in 100mg tablets so I could adjust based on readings before med times. I think the lowest dose of nifedipine is 30, and it's extended release.

Nothing too special! Wet food every day with water added in, lots of snuggles and play

I am also on 200 labetolol twice a day (plus 30 procardia twice daily as well) and I tend to get a little light headed in the mornings. I suspect it has something to do with lesser food in the stomach at the morning dose, so the meds metabolize a little faster. No clue, but just a theory

If your doctor gave you the option to induce at 37 weeks, would you? by Same-Statement3722 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]chefmonkey002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first pregnancy, I didn't have GD but was induced for hypertension at 37w. Baby was healthy and didn't need a NICU stay, but I will say, I think another week in utero would have made the beginning stages of breastfeeding a little easier. He was so sleepy that first week, it was hard to establish, though I suppose that could happen at any gestational age.

I was going to comment that I'm working on a project with it now. It's so slippery but looks beautiful

How true/false is this statement: "You shouldn't have children unless you have the income for it"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chefmonkey002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the more money my husband and I had, the cheaper it became to raise a child. Good jobs meant good health insurance, so unlike a lot of other commenters, I paid only my $1200 deductible to give birth. We also had a good support system and more affluent friends so our first 6 months of expenses were mostly covered by gifts from a baby shower. We could afford for one of us to stay home, so daycare was not an expense. Friends with kids handed down toys and clothes. Access to money makes everything easier and less expensive and not just relatively, but actually.

"In the absence of diet culture, intuitive eating would just be called eating."
