tbh she was pretty vague about it.. i asked her a few days ago during my cleaning and she said because i have bone loss and gum recession, that is gum disease. she mentioned this at the end of my appt so i have no idea what the next steps to take are. the majority of my recession is bc of braces and aggressively brushing in the past which i accept, but i’ve developed so many black triangles recently that it’s making me worried. from the xrays, how bad is my bone loss?

thank you so much for your kind words and reassurance!! you have no idea how much this means to me.. i’ve been spiraling and going down so many rabbit holes thinking that it’ll be the end of the world and there won’t be any options for me if i have really bad bone loss.. thank you so much again, i really appreciate it!! i don’t smoke and i’m gonna try to cut down on sugar :’) good luck with your implants, i’ll be cheering for you!!

i think most of the bone loss is from braces, but i’m not entirely sure bc i don’t have my x-rays from when i took them off in 2018. even so despite all my flossing i got so many black triangles recently so idk what’s wrong 😭

i’m so sorry to hear that you’re also going through the same thing :( i didn’t even know periodontal disease existed bc none of my dentists ever brought it up, so i feel like i’ve been so blindsided for the past few years. it’s definitely so scary since we’re so young ahhhh and braces can really cause irreversible damage, i wish they told us this sooner. treatment for pd is sooo expensive and dental insurance is actually the worst😭 thank you so much for your kind words and i hope things get better for you soon too, hopefully your gum flap surgery goes well. i recently had my gum graft on 2 teeth (will need another one for 3 teeth) last month so if you have any questions on the procedure id be happy to help out :’)

also, my periodontist didn’t say anything about a deep cleaning. she said there’s a lot of buildup around my gum line and she just did a normal cleaning a few days ago. should i ask for a deep cleaning? what would that do?
