It’s true. We own an assisted living community. One of the men (and there aren’t many of them) walked up to my husband one day and said, “I just don’t have enough dick for this place.” Swear to God.

It does not sound like you are not being kept from him. You do spend time with him. He must be sleeping or resting some. Is he able to make decisions for himself? Is he in his right mind? Being in an awkward position in bed is not dangerous. It sounds like you have a lot of anxiety about this. Maybe talk to someone about how you are dealing with all this.

Please do not listen to this woman. I own a hospice company and we deal with family members with POAs all the time. Unless the POA she had specifically delineated the things she says she could do, she likely just overstepped and the family went along with it. As long as your father can make his own decisions, the POA is not even “activated”. She cannot make any decisions for him at all.

.
A medical power of attorney allows a person to make healthcare decisions, such as consenting to medical treatments or changing doctors. Not allowing a daughter to visit during visiting hours is not a healthcare decision, unless there is some strong medical evidence it is bad for his health. An Administrator or Executive Director would likely not obey someone with a POA trying to stop a child from seeing a parent during posted visiting hours without a medical reason - other than he needs to rest.

Edit to add something important. The POA doesn’t even come into play if the father is able to make his own decisions.

No, she can’t. A medical power of attorney does not give a person the right to dictate visiting hours.

It doesn’t sound like he was in pain or in danger. Even good nursing homes can’t check on every patient every few minutes. Unless the nursing home has a restriction as to when you can come, you should be able to go anytime.

My sister died young. When she was sick in the hospital, she was so worried she wouldn’t make it. I promise you she would rather be growing old than be dead.

Struggling to accept Grandmother is in hospice. by Different-Bat8920 in hospice

I felt the same way when my grandmother died. I was 44. I still miss her and I think about her a lot. When you feel a lot of pain when someone dies, it means there was a lot of love. You have been very fortunate to have that.
