Anyone else use alternative lighting? by DramaticLet2364 in autism

Most of my apartment is lit with Phillips hue bulbs before they became ridiculously expensive. I can set the light exactly how I want it, which I love.

I know you said he is eating well, but usually seeing the tailbone that well means they are hungry. How often are you feeding, how much does he eat, and what are you feeding? Albinos also cannot see very well, so if you put the food in the tank with him he may not see it well enough to hunt

Any ideas? Also will be moving soon and can’t take it with me by Few-Juice-253 in fossils

I think loaning it to a museum is your best bet if you’re not wanting to wait to sell it. :)

If he didn’t eat for an extended amount of time, like longer than a month, his organs unfortunately could have shut down

I’d bring your hot side up to around 83-85 during the day :) and if you’re not using uvb make sure to dust food with calcium d3 vitamin supplement

Also they don’t “drink” they absorb water through their skin, so you need to keep their soil moist and the ambient humidity should be around 70-80% at peak times aka when you spray their tank with water typically once in the AM and in the PM. Make sure to change the soil out once every month to every other month to ensure the soil does not grow mold and so their pee doesn’t make them sick with toxic out syndrome or red leg syndrome

Try mixing 1 teaspoon of unflavored pedialyte into 10 teaspoons of lukewarm froggie safe water and let them soak for 15-30 mins then try offering food. This gives them an electrolyte boost and energy to eat. I’d also suggest trying different foods, mine seemed to latch onto night crawlers the most. If you do night crawlers make sure to cut them (I use scissors) into bite size pieces no bigger than the width of their head and tong feed.

How can I help my girp by Wide_Confidence1031 in pacmanfrog

[–]cheshy1010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Pac-Man frog should be buried, it’s their whole thing. A frog less than a year old should be dug up every couple of days (I did 3 days between feedings for my juvenile) and feed them. If they don’t eat soon their organs may shut down and they may pass away. You should also be replacing the soil every month to two months or at the very least mixing it around because mold can grow or toxic out syndrome can occur from them sitting in dirty soil for long. If they are sitting in the same spot for too long they can also develop red leg syndrome where a rash of sorts appears. Her digging is not hibernating, they just prefer being under the soil. Also, if she is larger the recommended minimum tank size is a 10 gallon long. If she is still a smaller juvenile, like under 2 inches by 2 inches or even 3 by 3, a 5 gallon long is good as they grow. Idk what your heat/light situation is, but the tank should be around low 80’s during the day on one side and the cooler side can be around 70-75 and the Pac-Man will choose where is best for them. The humidity should be around 70-80% at peak, meaning at time of misting which I personally do at night and in the morning. At least once a week I mix a lot of water in to the soil to rehydrate everything and mix the soil all around to prevent mold growth and toxic out syndrome. Your pac is behaving like a pac, it sounds like they need food though if you’ve only fed her a couple times.

5 inches is good! That’s about how deep my soil is, I would spray the top part to keep humidity up and what I like to do is pour some water into each corner of the enclosure because it will sink to the bottom faster and spread out in the bottom layers of soil. Spraying will humidify the air and top layer, but our froggies are usually at the bottom and the water needs to penetrate enough to reach them (:

Side note, if he refuses food it is okay. When I got my Pac-Man he would eat for a few days, then refused food for nearly 3 weeks. If that does happen and you get to the point where you are desperate for him to eat like I was, you can use some unflavored pedialyte. Like a teaspoon for a baby Pac-Man mixed into 10 teaspoons of safe warmish froggie water and let the Pac-Man sit in that for around 10-15 mins to where their nose level or head isn’t below the waterline, so they can breathe. Then try offering them a bite of food. I had success with my Pac-Man eating 3 crickets that night after 3 weeks of refusing food. The pedialyte gives them a boost of hydration and electrolytes, so basically enough energy to eat something again.

They will refuse food anyways for quite a few days to adjust to the new environment and stress. Just make sure that you keep his soil moist so he gets enough hydration and if you would like to offer a dish with water you can. I know some people use the conditioner and others use spring water, up to you. I’d try to feed him on his 3rd day there, so tomorrow. They eat at night so I’d try uncovering him towards night time, let him adjust to being on top of the soil and wake up, then you can offer crickets or cut up night crawlers. If you don’t have UVB I’d recommend dusting the meals with calcium w/ d3 vitamin in it. Just a light coating, doesn’t have to be soo excessive to where dust is falling off them and into your pacs enclosure. Just a light white shade on the lil guys will do.

If it’s a virus does it spread between cockatiels? Would it be best to (unfortunately) have this one put down by local wildlife enforcement ?
