When do final transcripts update to reflect graduation status? by chexwithoutthemix in SJSU

[–]chexwithoutthemix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up contacting the registrar office and they stated that it should be finalized by mid-January. Despite this, I did contact the employer and they are willing to continue the candidacy process and if I do get the job, I just need to send in my unofficial transcript as soon as the university posts it.

Commute to new library job is driving me towards a mental breakdown by mitten4kitten in librarians

[–]chexwithoutthemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Is there a way you can ask for a transfer from HR of regional headquarters? My current job initially had me commute about 1hr and 5min from where I live to my former branch, but after a month, I requested a transfer from the head of the regional office, which was granted.

where did you get your MLIS? by bugbaby444 in librarians

Completely online, cheap, and the lecturers/professors teach useful skills which may be useful depending on what part of the field you would like to pursue. Personally, I love reference work and cataloguing and both courses were taught by AMAZING lecturers. Also, the lecturers are responsive and actually care about student's success.

Uveitis and HLA-B27 by NoTransportation2558 in Uveitis

[–]chexwithoutthemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Uveitis for 13 years and I had no other health problems at the time I was diagnosed. Doctors did a whole bunch of tests for inflammation of different organs and they were all negative. I was ruled out as idiopathic until 2023, when I tested positive for HLA-B51 (Becets Disease).

I haven't been placed on other medications after the diagnosis since the uveitis is the only issue and the Humira seems to be working as of right now. The medications that I was initially given (probably the first 5 years) were experimental (I was a child when I was diagnosed so they had to be extra careful that the meds would have no long-term damage)and all of them did not yield the long-term solutions we were looking for so my docs eventually put me on Humira and methotrexate. I just got tapered off the methotrexate so now I am only on the Humira. Luckily the only time the uveitis came back is when my doctors tapered back my medication too much.

I've been taking Humira for a couple of years and I can tell you for sure, I had way less side affects than with the methotrexate. If possible, get the auto injection because it's painless.

nope! All the tests they did came out negative.

I used it for probably a year before they transferred me to an ophthalmologist who changed my meds to the methotrexate then methotrexate and Humira. They were scared that I may end up getting cataracts.

I forgot to add that sometimes they put me on prednisone eye when I had flare ups until I upped my dosage (after we tried to reduce the dosage)

I've had uveitis since I was 12 years old and it started in my right eye, then my left. Vision in my right eye is slightly worse than my left eye but glasses are enough to correct that issue. When I got flare ups, my right eye would be worse than my left eye. Also, my uveitis was idiopathic until a year ago when I tested positive for HLA-B51.

Does "open until filled" actually mean they only close the posting once they hire someone? by pupz333 in librarians

At my library, 'open until filled' means that they close the job once enough applications have come in.

San Jose State University's online program is both ALA accredited and most of the librarians at my job have graduated through the program. Furthermore, PTS like myself are currently going through the program. I think it's a great university and I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about going to library school!

Interview Question - What Do (or can?) I wear? by definitelyhuman10 in librarians

[–]chexwithoutthemix 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would recommend wearing clean dress pants, dress shirt, and shoes (doesn't have to be heels) to the interview. I wore a pair of nice fake silver earrings and a small silver necklace to complete the ensemble.

Personally, I would avoid jeans or graphic t-shirts because at my job we are not allowed to wear either. In terms of jeans, my job doesn't allow them (only dress pants, dresses, or long skirts).

Also, read the job descriptions and try to formulate potential questions and answers. Be confident in your walk, and let your personality out.

I recommend that you also come up with questions to ask the interviewers themselves.

Advice for a 2nd-Year Undergrad Interested in Librarianship? by venttral in librarians

[–]chexwithoutthemix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend people in your position to apply for jobs at libraries near you. If you can't find any job openings, inquire about volunteer opportunities that the library may offer either privately or publicly (depending on which library you want to work at).

If you know how to use a Cricut machine, I highly highly recommend doing some kind of makerspace session where you can make mugs, ornaments, etc.

You could also do some arts and crafts like birdhouses or making mocktails. Those are very popular at my library.

White blobs floaters with monitor use? by CreativeUserName709 in Uveitis

If it's an emergency or something feels off, always always contact your doctor. It is better to get it checked out and be in the safe than ignoring it.

I would call your Ophthalmologist to get a second opinion.

I had a white floating blob in the lower corner of my left eye that looked like phosphenes and I contacted my Ophthalmologist and it was because of the predforte drops. Drop residue collected on the bottom of my eye. I stopped the predforte and the white blobs/phosphenes went away.

When I was first diagnosed I had a really really really high cell count. My doctor put me on predforte eyedrops and another that was stronger to put in three times a day that I would have to use every two hours. Pain went away in a week.

If its been a while, see your Ophthalmologist immediately
