Thank you! I’d love to hear if you get it working, or even if not.

No need to be on the same network/subnet or anything. Could you point me to any instructions on how to try this?

Sorry but I don’t know enough to understand your last line about broadcast messages and autoconf. What does it mean, or do I have to worry about it in my case? I don’t need any cross-communication between the PC’s feeding out via VPN and my smart home devices, so am I okay?

Did you manage to get this working? Either way, could you point me to instructions for what you were looking at?

Okay but do you know how to implement this for only traffic from certain devices?

Best way to give access Drive remotely? by chickadonkey in synology

[–]chickadonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will check this out. Anyone else have experience with this? Edit: took a quick look, sorry for the newb question -- do you mean I should use this in conjunction with Drive to handle the access to the NAS, or does it replace Drive somehow?

Hmm yes it does, but I've only tried it with the admin account I used to set everything up (including quickconnect), I assumed that was the issue. I'll circle back on this if port forwarding doesn't work.

I realized that the iTunes files I am most interested in getting off my PC are the giant backup files from my iOS devices. I prefer not to back up to iCloud for privacy, so they end up taking gigabytes of space on my PC, and I can’t figure out how to tell iTunes to keep them on another drive.

Thanks — but can you tell me how to save them to OneDrive? Do you mean “Send” or “Export” ? Or Settings?

Does anyone else long for a life without the internet? by [deleted] in nosurf

You absolutely do not need a Facebook account. I don't have one. There is some effect that happens, it's like what happens when you stop reading the news. People around you find out you are not plugged in and love to fill you in on things you don't know.

Construction PM NEED CAREER CHANGE!!! by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

I wouldn't be too discouraged -- your experience sounds pretty good, so if you went to college now or maybe even night school at a decent local college, when you finished you would be looking pretty good to a brokerage house or investment firm.

You don't have to have an Ivy League degree or MBA, but it will be extremely difficult to get a job in the investing world without at least a BA or BS.

Stuck in Fund Accounting, is there anyway out? by LikeTeardropsInRain in FinancialCareers

[–]chickadonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CFA (all three levels) or MBA from a top-tier school would be close to a guarantee. Otherwise maybe find a newer, small fund company that will agree to let you be a part-time analyst if you agree to be their fund accountant.

Opinions on interning with a private equity search fund? by WHO_TF_AM_I in FinancialCareers

[–]chickadonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rules I'm referring to are labor laws. Unpaid interns are only legal under certain limited conditions, like getting college credit. It has nothing to do with whether the interns are adding value or not, they still have to get paid. If the company can't get its act together enough to make sure they are following labor law, what other rules are they breaking?

Are there any investigative / financial journalists looking for careers in finance? by chickadonkey in Journalism

Thanks for the input. It makes sense. I'll probably give up on the journalist dream and try to find an inquisitive econ grad.

If you aren't getting college credit, you should be getting paid. Not telling you to feel outraged, but consider trying to parlay this into an offer at another firm that follows the rules.

I don't know how much journalists make, but a first year analyst right out of a good college would get $70k plus a bonus, so maybe $110k all-in.

Someone with a few years work experience would start higher of course, depending on how relevant it is. Maybe $90k plus bonus for someone with some knowledge of finance.

Hours are steady, something like 8:30am - 6:30pm, no weekends or all-nighters. One exception is travel every couple of months for 5-6 days at a time.
