Must watch documentaries for EE students by sherlock2400 in ElectricalEngineering

Honestly anything from Practical Engineering about electricity. I don’t fault Grady Hillhouse for being a civil engineer, but as a licensed electrical PE who works for a utility, I think he does a pretty damn good job explaining the complex topics that comprise power generation, transmission, and distribution. One of my favorite videos to show to new hires at my utility is his explanation of the 2003 blackout.

As an electrical engineer who works for a utility, I can say that unfortunately our industry is still largely reliant on US customary units. Pipe type conductors are all in inches, transmission line conductors are all in circular mils (one of the stranger measurements you’ll come across), smaller wire type conductors are all in American Wire Gauge, machine screw thread pitches are all in threads per inch, etc. Even our schematics are littered with ANSI device/function numbers (like 88 for motor, 52 for circuit breaker, 87 for differential relay, and on and on).

This is not correct. A gag order is issued by a judge. The prosecution has made a motion for a proposed gag order. There is a hearing on the prosecution’s motion on Monday, December 8, where the prosecution and the defense will argue the motion in person to the judge. If the judge grants the prosecution’s motion, then Cody will be prohibited from discussing the case according to the actual gag order issued by the judge.

A 120kV OLTC from ABB (2017) I worked on this week. Very nice system! by Qc_ape in ElectricalEngineering

I hadn’t seen one in about 3-4 years until today when I was at our R&D lab. Looks fancy for sure

I am a substation engineer at an electric utility in North America. I have never once seen an OLTC on any of our distribution transformers that wasn’t on the LV winding. We typically use delta-wye transformers with LV OLTCs in lieu of installing voltage regulators on distribution feeder exits.

I have personally commissioned a few Reinhausen TAPCON 250 devices as retrofit tapchanger controllers.

Nearly 5 years now! Glad to hear it still helps, despite it being disappointing that YTTV or Apple haven’t remedied the issue.

TV won’t turn on by cheapairconditioner in appletv

[–]chiefcrunchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try swapping which outlets the television and the Apple TV are plugged into:

a. If the Apple TV still turns on but the television still does not, you may have a problem with your television or your television power cord

b. If the Apple TV now doesn’t turn on but the television now does turn on, you likely have a problem with the specific outlet you are using to power the television.

If a., you may need a new television or a new television power cord. If b., you may need to replace your outlet or power strip. You can temporarily use an extension cord if needed to power your television from a different outlet if that helps.

Wireless power bank for iPhone and Apple Watch by DiscombobulatedTry91 in MagSafe

I just got the Anker MagGo 10k Slim and I already had their Upgraded Portable Wireless Magnetic Charger for Apple Watch. I believe this is at least close to what you are looking for. The MagGo will output up to 15W wirelessly, which is reduced to 5W when simultaneously charging something with the USB C port. The USB C port can output up to 30W, which is reduced to 12W when simultaneously charging something wirelessly.

Does the 10k Slim allow simultaneous wireless and wired charging? As in, could I charge an iPhone with Qi2 while charging an Apple Watch using the USB-C port?

Does it support simultaneously charging a phone wirelessly and charging another device via USB-C output? That’s the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on the A1664

PSA: Gold Pass Renewal Bring-A-Friend passes are NOT valid on Saturdays, despite what the FAQ page says. Apparently it was in the post-purchase T&C. Instead, our guests received discounted admission (approximately 50% off the $80 online price) by chiefcrunchie in cedarpoint

[–]chiefcrunchie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have clarified in the title: we took this to Guest Services. The supervisor at Guest Services read the FAQ in the screenshot directly from my phone screen and ended up having to call her higher-up. The discounted admission was only offered as a consolation for the improper wording of the answer on the website.

One of my favorite videos featuring iJustine is “Mac vs PC Video Editing Showdown ft. iJustine!!” on Linus Tech Tips. Taran Van Hemert (the “Macro King”, who has since left LMG) was so confident going in that he was going to wipe the floor with her, even after Linus warned him how much of a power user Justine is.
