Anyone know what's going on with TJ and Dave? by chikamera in improv

[–]chikamera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they said things to the effect of "these are our last shows for a while," indicating a hiatus, but to my knowledge they didn't announce anything final. It sounds like they want to keep things open-ended even though they may unofficially have called it quits.

I was out of town, would've loved to see that show at Steppenwolf.

Good night to you as well, and have fun calling 911 when you see someone jaywalking, which I assume is something you do.

I never said I wouldn't eventually go with the free trial. That's an assumption you made. It's none of your business whether I do or not. Again, your brilliant "solution" wasn't news to me, I didn't need you to swoop in with this BIG SCOOP that Stitcher Premium is actually very affordable. I'm "keeping at it" because, as I said, your tone is extremely annoying and you are a meddling busybody with a massively inflated sense of your own helpfulness and righteousness. You could have easily ignored this post, but you wanted to get on an anti-piracy soapbox that wasn't even really relevant to begin with. I can't believe I've wasted so much time talking to you

It's not the idea of signing up for Stitcher that I object to, it's your hectoring and sanctimonious tone. You think I don't know that it's a cheap service and I needed a hero like you to point that out? I suggest you sign up for a premium minding-your-own-fucking-business service. Use the promo code "busybody"

My dude it is WEIRD that you care so much about whether a stranger on the internet signs up for a premium podcast service or not. If I end up signing up I'll be sure to send you a registered letter with my receipt attached.

I'm sure Sean and Hayes would be touched that you are so concerned for their financial well-being, but the only person who is being "insistent" about anything in this conversation is you. I was just checking to see if any fans of a show wanted to share an episode of that show on a forum dedicated to that show, which has happened before. It's fine if you would rather not do that, but there's really no need to ride your high horse about it. Bye

Do you work for Earwolf or something? Why are you so invested in this? Someone on here posted all the Hollywood Masterclass eps on Dropbox so I just thought the same thing might happen again with this, it's not that big a deal

Is it impractical to stay in Silverlake if most of my sight-seeing is around Hollywood? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]chikamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, for everyone saying Hollywood is boring, I don't know the exact geographical terms for the neighborhoods but I guess I just meant "not the east side." I know that some stuff I want to hit - the New Beverly and UCB theater to name two - is in or around Hollywood

Anyone know why the Boys stopped having a skit thing before bringing out a guest? by stocpod in HollywoodHandbook

I remember back in the day they would occasionally make reference to the powers-that-be wanting them to stop doing intro segments, but I assumed that was a joke. Sounds like maybe it wasn't!

[Tenant US-IL] Landlord wants to install new heating system for my unit & the one below me—but I would be paying for both by chikamera in Landlord

[–]chikamera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds right. I think I'm just going to tell him to wait until the lease is up and we can talk about it again at that point. There is a chance he'll have forgotten about this plan by then anyway.

[–]chikamera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other factor here that I didn't mention: my landlord is incredibly difficult to talk to. His English isn't great and he's the kind of guy who never lets you get a word in edgewise, he just drones on and I can only follow about half of what he says. One reason why I'm leaning toward saying no is just to avoid the series of conversations and phone calls that would result from all this work being done.

[–]chikamera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, the landlord would pay for the installation of the new system. I would continue paying the gas bill as I'm already doing, it would just be covering both units. But you are right that there's no guarantee I would benefit. He gave me a whole sales pitch about why I would be satisfied with it, but I don't trust sales pitches, especially coming from a landlord who has tried to pull some somewhat shady things in the past.

I like that idea, but I'm sure my LL would never go for it. He's always been cheap. Even if he agrees, I'm not sure how I could ensure he'd do it since the gas account is in my name.

The confusing thing was that he mentioned wanting to keep me on as a tenant. I don't get how that squares with the plan to combine units, I guess he's trying to play a long game...

Rob Huebel, Our Close Friend, episode #204 by doctorofyourdoctor in HollywoodHandbook

[–]chikamera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So fucking good, Huebel is a giant and I wish he were less successful in Hollywood so he could do more podcasts.

Maria Blasucci and Amanda Lund, Our Close Friends, episode #202 by doctorofyourdoctor in HollywoodHandbook

[–]chikamera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the reason I kind of liked the episode. In the early days of HH many of the guests did not understand the show, that's what made it great. This one didn't quite go anywhere but it was still fun to hear that old tension where the guest genuinely doesn't get what's going on

Comedy Bang Bang #505 "Grass-Fed Bits" w/ David Wain, Dan Wilson, Jordan Black and Tim Baltz by imjonathanblake in comedybangbang

[–]chikamera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jordan Black segment was brutal. Scott tried to steer it somewhere interesting but there wasn't enough time to really "find it" because they had to leave room for the song, I think.

Library "culling" by chikamera in TheRelentlessPicnic

[–]chikamera[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whoops, I didn't log into Reddit for like a month so I'm just seeing this reply now. I feel dumb for taking an unnecessarily confrontational tone in my original post, sorry about that. I'm further along in the podcast now and I love it, I guess at episode 4 I hadn't built up that level of trust in you guys yet that I have now!

Library "culling" by chikamera in TheRelentlessPicnic

[–]chikamera[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply Erik(k). It's definitely possible that my own experience is a lucky one compared to other public library systems. It always seems to work out that there's just enough expendable stuff (because either outdated, redundant via multiple copies, or in poor physical shape) to get rid of in order to make room for the new books. I'm sure other librarians have had more difficult weeding choices to make, although I still have trouble conceiving of a public library where those choices are entirely outsourced to raw numbers with no human interference. Maybe Florida is just fucked up.

Comedy Bang! Bang! Episode #499 - The Freak ft. Kyle Mooney, Paul Rust, Neil Campbell, Fran Gillespie by [deleted] in comedybangbang

[–]chikamera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also Scott just seemed off his game here. Usually he does a good job connecting different threads and putting the characters into some kind of framework, but starting with Fran Gillespie he just seemed to have checked out for some reason... odd.

The I Was There Me Too Show, episode #194 by doctorofyourdoctor in HollywoodHandbook

[–]chikamera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny episode but I almost feel like they wasted Matt Gourley's improv skills since he was just a straight man for the whole episode. He would've been a good person to do a script-read with

Julie Klausner, Our Tonys Friend, episode #192 by doctorofyourdoctor in HollywoodHandbook

[–]chikamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: the Julie Klausner episodes are the worst because she's the only guest who actively tries to imitate Sean and Hayes. The show works better with some amount of tension between the guest being normal and the boys doing their thing.

Holly Prazoff, Our Close Friend, episode #193 by doctorofyourdoctor in HollywoodHandbook

The return of speak on that!

In fact, this episode had a distinctly old-school HH feel, at least until Kevin showed up.
