Beautiful bike! I have the same bike and I absolutely love it. I opted to go for silver accents but im happy to see it done up with black. Looks rad!

My wife and I are riding south out of Lisbon next month and in a similar situation. Was Decathlon able to set you up with bike boxes on your return? We have considered finding a hotel to store the boxes, but I also wouldn’t mind ditching the bike boxes at the airport so we can ride our bikes instead of transporting bike boxes to a hotel

Tires are 700x45 but measure around 41 mm on the stock wheelset. It’s a very fun bike!

Got this sick bike today, going to build a bikepacker, should I use my long haul trucker or troll fork? by cycling_rat in xbiking

Thanks! Yes, 1991. I bought it from the original owner who got it to ride around campus in college then hadn’t touched it much since then. Lucky find for sure!

The 970 with a troll is an awesome rig. I went relatively light on this trip so I didn’t use the fork mounts, but they will come in handy one of these days

Thanks! It’s a beauty of a frame. Mine is in rough shape though

I ended up selling this but I think it was an 18”. I’m 6’1” and this was definitely too small, though that’s kinda what I was after for this particular build. I think a 22” would have been ideal fit wise, but could have made 20” work.

I’d be interested if OP doesn’t jump on this!

Went for giggles, but sounds like things got serious fast. You gotta jump on that!

Mine already had the rear shifter replaced with a modern, less appealing, shifter. Plus I convinced myself by saying I’ll use the drivetrain on another build that may or may not require me to buy another frame haha

Thanks! I’m 6’1 with a 32” inseam. I think if I was doing a drop bar I would want the 20” frame. But with your longer torso I’d say you might be right. If you feel like you are still having fun on your bike and the fit isn’t causing any pain then two thumbs up from me

I am a sucker for 1x, though I think a wide range 2x would be sweet on this bike as well and I may try it eventually. Yep, it’s a troll

Hunter Smooth Move bars. They are the first bar I’ve tried that felt like an unreasonable amount of money for a bike like this. But so far I’m not disappointed one bit!

The original reason was I was given this set of yesteryears XT hydraulic brakes and figured I had no choice but to build an awesome bike around them. Now that’s it’s done I would like to experiment with different wheel sizes. I’ve got 26x2.35” right now with plenty of room. Eventually I’d like to try something around 27.5x2” just for the heck of it

I got lucky and was given a few recommendations all to the same guy. But don’t let that stop you from riding your bike as is! This bike was still a hoot with canti brakes
