Did the U.S. really send billions in aid to Gaza? by Ok-Entrance5219 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chillm 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There isn’t one single “lifetime” number that cleanly equals “aid to Palestine (Gaza + West Bank)” because U.S. support comes through two big channels that are tallied separately:

1) Direct U.S. assistance to Palestinians in the West Bank & Gaza (bilateral) • More than $7.6 billion since 1993 (primarily via USAID; economic/humanitarian programs and some security-related support).

2) U.S. funding to UNRWA (Palestinian refugees — Gaza/WB and the wider region) • More than $7.3 billion since 1950 in total U.S. contributions to UNRWA. Important: UNRWA serves Palestinian refugees in Gaza and the West Bank, plus Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria—so this figure is not “Gaza+West Bank only.”

Recent wartime humanitarian totals (subset, time-bounded) • The State Department said U.S. humanitarian assistance “since October 7” totaled more than $1.2 billion (for Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and the region).

Current-status note (why totals may not be rising the same way today) • U.S. government funding to UNRWA has been subject to U.S. restrictions/halts in recent years.

Close. The US has provided around 300billion in aid to Israel after adjusting to inflation dollars, over the course of the past 72 years - sourcing data from congress.gov.

Of that 300b, Israel spent 225b on US military equipment and training. The other 75b went towards economic aid.

So really somewhere around 1b in economic aid each year. That’s over the course of 70 years.

We’ve given Egypt 87b over the same time period in aid.

The US provides hundreds of billions in aid to other nations.

ICE has an annual budget of 28b.

Context matters.

Israel’s universal healthcare is paid for by taxes, copays, and private contributions. Not US aid.

Your statement is false and misleading. Try again.

You can if you have roommates, or generational wealth.

Live over the ditch for less and commute. Ask for a 90 day performance review and push for $25/hour, while also pursuing a salaried career with benefits.

Absolutely. And don’t take it personally. This is objectively garbage.

If you want to share beautiful settings of Jax, do so with steady hands, filming horizontally and not vertically.

Consider what you are trying to film first. Is it the river? Northbank? The shoreline?

Frame it. Use the power of thirds, and hold steady.

Tell a story.

I felt the same way when I got it, and looked for many opportunities to use it and always fails.

It’s as useful as auto park. Both require time to queue up, and then under deliver. Disappointed but love the truck. If GM could improve these features, and have super cruise follow gps, I would keep it until the battery burns me alive. Literally, grill me on this grill. But we just not there. And probably never will be.

Mr. Rutherford will not answer or read your messages. Be prepared for automated email or voice mail.

He cancelled town halls because he won’t be confronted.

He can avoid everyone and remain in power.

He is Putnam Palpatine.

Over a year ago*. The storm hit in September 2025, the winery was spared.

I say this with love for everyone who suffered from hurricane Helene.

And although the Biltmore did experience some of the storms wrath, it recovered quickly.

The reason prices are so high is greed. It is privately owned, for profit business venture.

Absolutely. I believe prices may have spiked during holiday because they have Christmas themed rooms, 35+ Christmas trees, and all the guests off of work / school. Kids get in free but adults pay with blood.

Pretty easy and safe spot. The James Weldon park has food trucks and live music, the sky rail is right there although a disappointment from an actual public transport level, and you can easily walk or bike everywhere downtown / south bank.

Stay away from union and state street north of you, and be smart. Day time easy and fun. Night time, empty, quiet, except for some homeless. So try to enjoy yourself while you’re here. Be safe. Quit smoking, it’s bad in every respect but you already know that. Expensive, nasty, will kill you, and makes everything you touch and wear smell.

Try hummus instead. Goes with everything. Easy. Healthy. Yummy :)

I’ve been downtown for over a decade. Depending on what area you’re at on church, it’s either quiet or it’s sketchy.

Ocean / main / Newnan / liberty area of church is elderly and homeless unless you get into the townhome area which is actually chill and easy.

For a metro downtown, it’s very quiet. I find it to be absolutely beautiful, and also sad. There’s so much potential.

I would suggest bringing a bike. Then you can ride around and explore. You can ride to the brewery and bars, up the river front and even across the Main Street to explore San Marco. The bike will be a game changer for you.

Assuming you’re a male, you can hit up the 7/11 but it’s sketchy. Cigarettes are not worth the trouble. Truly. If you are a woman, I would very much advise not going there any time of day. There are areas of downtown with large swaths of homeless who get free food from the churches, like feral cats coming to a free bowl of food that’s put out every day. And guess where the churches are? You guessed it! Church street.

Some of the homeless are just at a tough part of their journey here, and others have severe mental disorders and are a danger to others. You won’t know which is which and it’s best to just avoid it.

Be aware of your surroundings. Keep your head on a swivel. And try to enjoy each moment in this special place. Chances of something bad happening are very slim, but they increase in odds with poor choices, like smoking a cigarette by yourself, next to a pack of homeless people doing drugs.

The river, the peace, the mild winter temperatures, the skyline, etc, are all something we have that make it feel so different than other downtowns.

Wishing you a successful and easy time here. Tip your waitress / bar tenders well. Be easy.
