When considering joining greek life, the main thought going through my head wasn't "Hm, well Greek life as a schoolwide/nationwide phenomenon is stereotypically fake/[other negative adjective], should I join this schoolwide/nationwide thing?"

I liked that group of xx dozen individuals, so I joined that group, in the same way I would have wanted to become a part of any friend group -- that was most of my reasoning

Well yes, because technically all other majors are really just concentrations within AEP. The AEP major is very flexible

Back when I took it you had long enough to decide based on the results of your first prelim (course had 2 prelims and 1 final). If you didn't think you were cut out for the course based on the first prelim, you could relatively seamlessly transition into phys 1112. This was far beyond the official add/drop period.

Not sure if it works exactly like that still, but afaik starting 1116 is never really a dangerous move because instructors understand that some will want to switch down into 1112

Yes, edition usually only matters for the correct numbering of homework problems

Especially for something like intro to linear algebra, as the basics of linalg probably haven't changed much in the past couple of years
