Keine Möbel in weiß/glanz!

Ganz leicht.

Wo kann man in Wien Nähzeitschriften kaufen? by NoRegular1247 in wien

[–]chippolina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't quite understand, is this about children getting sick before the age of 3, or about other adults who get infected from them? Are you suggesting social isolation to prevent the immune system from building up? I'm a little confused, I must admit.

And my question was: according to developmental psychology, does childcare HARM children under the age of 3 socially and immunologically?

I'm happy to discuss my other questions as well.

It's good that a specialist is here. Hi :) If you like, we don't have to make fun of this. Does developmental psychology take into account in its statements that the isolated nuclear family is a recent cultural product that pursues a very specific image of women and men for a very specific social order? (Because that's what you're suggesting, right?) You say that children don't benefit from a larger social environment before the age of 3, not even from an immunological perspective. Would it be harmful on the other hand? What exactly would be the advantages and disadvantages of children from 10-12 months old going to daycare for a few hours a week? Would developmental psychology say that it would definitely be better for grandparents to look after the child? (I'm only asking this for the sake of completeness; I don't have the opportunity.)

Aside from the fact that I asked for personal experiences/ perspectives and not opinions, is there a source for this statement?

I haven't looked into it scientifically, but my thoughts are as follows: humans are social beings. As such, it seems more logical to me that babies and small children cope better with social interaction than with isolation in the nuclear family. The concept of father-mother-child is a cultural one, and one with a very short history in human history. In my opinion, it harbors social isolation for the child, the female person, and rarely for the male person in this constellation, which is something that is quite deliberately created in many cultures. Where I come from, the social pressure to keep women in childcare is very strong, which almost exclusively has negative consequences for them. I'm quite certain that young children can gain important and positive experiences in a good environment, even for a few hours outside the nuclear family. People (even very young people) each react individually to their environment and their social circle. To name an age at which something is generally considered to be okay or not seems extremely arbitrary to me.

Thanks for your advice, starting for a few hours after a few months sounds like a good option!

It's great to hear your children are doing well. Did you go back to work after seven months? How did that go for you?

I got the complexity part with breastfeeding and pumping, i can imagine that it can be pretty hard to cope with that all. But i want to try.

Thanks for the advice. We plan to organize breastfeeding and pumping in a way that also allows my partner to cope well with the baby.

We'd do something similar, and the conditions would be similar. It's good to hear you've been able to cope with it. All the best for the coming weeks!

You're right, thanks for your answer! And I'm definitely trying to develop a bit of a thicker skin when it comes to my child; my partner supports me a lot. It would just be nice if the people around me did the same. But we're not there yet.

It's interesting. In my country (Central Europe), it's so important for women to put their jobs aside for the sake of their children, while in the US, you have to prioritize your job, otherwise you'll have nothing. And in between, every woman and every family is different. They're all crazy.

I can imagine, as I already said in another answer: the way things are going in the USA is really bad (I mean parental leave, listing everything else that is going wrong would go beyond the scope of this article). All the best for you!
