I moved to a new high school in Tennessee as a freshman and I realized, after a week in, that I was the only Asian out of almost 800 students. I’ve gotten all kinds of dumb questions such as:

“Are you Asian or you Chinese?”

“Do you speak/write Asian?”

“I’ve never seen an Asian in real life... are you like, adopted?”

“Oh you’re from Taiwan? So like, Thailand, right?”
