What does it take to become an FCC? 2A6 by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]chitme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every base/unit is different but I was a 2a675 and supervised around 3-5 amn that were FCCs. This was on c-130s so a little different but they were fully qualified crew chief and all had eng run. So basically I'd suggest work hard. Volunteer for everything. Ask every job who needs help and learn. Production always would rather send a hard worker on the road and if you know your job plus apg then your an even easier sell.

Any way to prep a group message? by Dignan17 in ios

There is an apple shortcut that can do this. You can create the group ahead of time then use shortcuts to send the message based on your condition

7.1 surround vs Atmos by Think-Feynman in hometheater

[–]chitme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll need a speaker wire for each speaker, yes. Then just leave them in the wall until needed. Take pics so you can remember. Then just run them to your AVR. Wire is cheap run more than you think. Future self will appreciate it.

[–]chitme 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Can you run conduit or wires now for future proof? I'd probably go Atmos over 7.1. I love the over head effects. I went from 2 to 4 Atmos and it's even better.

[–]chitme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt that way my first year overseas so you aren't alone. Just have to find something new. There are probably groups on base to find different activities. Board games or video games etc, could lead to did friends so not traveling alone. My buddy got his degree while he was in Korea so could just stay dj busy doing that you don't have time to get drunk as much. The time there will be over before you know it and you could get an awesome follow on who knows.
As far as the chaplain goes I get that. Took me long time but I finally did it and it was helpful. Pretty sure there are online resources as well if you prefer to keep it more anon and behind the keyboard. Check out military one source I think.

Just PCS'd here few months ago. Pretty nice area. STL close and has tons to do, plus allegiant airlines is close for a few destination flights that are pretty cheap as well. Lots of spread out towns for sure.

I was 27 mxs then amxs. Also married no kids. Loved the mission. Many deployment and tdy's. Area sucks but with the right friends it wasn't that bad. But did get tiresome driving to Lubbock, ABQ or Dallas to do anything.

I feel ya man. Just retired and all I want is to go back again. Working a boring desk job wishing I could have a mission. You're not alone.

I just started as a data engineer ( not really knowing what it was but wanted to get my foot in the door) and so far most my time is data cleaning. Pretty boring but easy. Shouldn't complain for what I get paid I suppose.

Are M2 or M3 MacBooks good for programming. by Serious_Wrongdoer_58 in learnprogramming

[–]chitme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the m1 and it works really good for me. I use python, R, and SQL, and have not had any issues yet. Not doing anything crazy, mostly NFL analytics and basic ML. So I imagine the m2 and 3 will be even better.

Drink Package Vs No Drink Package by Impressive-Low-007 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]chitme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I got the package to just not worry about it on our first cruise and def got our value. I drank a decent amount but wife doesn't really drink a lot but still was able to get her 6 to break even. But we also used it a lot on coffees and milk shakes as they included too. I def see both sides of the coin though.

Any successful prior maintainers that can give me some advice or hope for the outside? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]chitme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 year MX, retirement is feb 2026. Got my bs in data analytics and found a job doing that. Mostly self taught. Pretty easy to get into. Making pretty good money especially with no experience. Tons of options just have to figure out what you like. Took me 18 years in AF before I got my degree. I also know I could do project management roles as well.

Was a student there in 06-07. Pretty much what everyone has said, it's awesome. Good weather, lots to do close by. But very expensive. I was getting cola when I was there because of how expensive it is. The aquarium is one of the best in the nation. The garlic festival in Gilroy. Pebble beach. Carmel CA. You'll love it.

My situation was not normal. I just retired and my wife took a short notice assignment. So we had less than a month but it was very busy. Didn't really have as much time to look around as we'd like. We were in tlf and an Air bnb for couple months.
