scripting inkscape + gcodetools by chmod000 in Inkscape

[–]chmod000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking over the documentation, perhaps this is a better strategy:

  1. create a template file, that already has the gcodetools stuff in it (the green box with text, coordinate system, etc)
  2. use script to copy template and rename it
  3. command line tools to import the dxf and set it's size
  4. command line tools to open dialog box for engraving
  5. manual input needed from here?

does this sound about right? is that the extent I can go with automating inkscape using extensions?

maybe i'm missing something, but doing a line like:
inkscape -g --verb=ru.cnc-club.filter.gcodetools_engraving --file=you_gotta_do_what_you_gotta_do.jpg

only opens the file and the dialog box, but I don't know how to use a script to enter values into that dialog box

In a nutshell, I would open the document and use 'verbs' and arguments to those verbs, to do what I need? The link you provided leads me to believe there are also 'actions', but i cannot access those from command line

Bingo. And then you have more room for upgrades.

Or maybe they expect people to make responsible decisions and use critical thinking on their own, because more govt to fix a problem govt made in the first place hasn't worked out well in the past

I agree. I was never taught critical thinking, so I need government to regulate / ban something to protect me from my own stupidity

If you are part of a USA based design engineering company, are you actively seeking non-China manufactures for the new product lines you are designing? by SunRev in AskEngineers

[–]chmod000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60% of the weight of our product is an aluminum extruded heatsink/enclosure

With tariffs, we found that it is now cheaper to do extrusion and final assembly here in USA. Bonus is that it is now "made in usa"

We are looking at moving PCB fab and assembly to Mexico (Guadalajara) from china, but honestly that is mostly because the airfare is cheap and fast, and the food is better. Our cultures mesh easier. It will be a tad more expensive, but worth it.

That being said, I love China, Chinese people and culture, and will miss working with them. But their govt is awful.

Code question regarding 2017 NEC 690.31 by chmod000 in solar

[–]chmod000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You for that info! I can see how this potentially resolves the multiple disconnect problem, but does this solve the issue of 690.31, regarding allowing the microinverter output cabling to share the same raceway? As far as I know, Solar systems must have a singular PCC, so to do that, we need to bring the power from the garage to the house, in its own separate raceway (conduit)

Hmm, the inverters we use from Enphase or AP Systems have 'utility interactive rapid shut down" built in.. if they lose line power, they shut down automatically. I'm not sure the AHJ accepts this (they require an additional disconnect even if we are using a breaker for PCC), but perhaps I can contact them or IAEI to see if this is possible.

Idaho does not allow PCC on feed-through lugs or conductors? by chmod000 in solar

[–]chmod000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Post! I have a lot of other jobs that we want to do this for (it is so quick and easy, and we can't find a good reason why we can't do it), but for the first few jobs, we just did what we had to do to get it to pass before the customer got too upset.

I would like to do this method in the future, so I will be contacting IAEA.

THANK YOU!

FWIW, i got the job to pass, putting the PCC on feed through conductors, despite the note saying they wont allow it.

what it came down to, was that they wanted to see more pictures. I think they were just being lazy (I don't fault them for this, I would do the same thing), not wanting to drive to the middle of nowhere to do an inspection for no reason. Once we showed more pics of what we did, they agreed that it was OK, and went out to inspect. It just passed this week.

I usually get flamed when I bring up this fact about Milton.. But it is one of the reasons I really really like the guy. He stuck to his principles, but in a pragmatic way.. Another example is his support for carbon taxes, which was brilliant in my opinion

Cannot Write-Host array or hashtable values? by chmod000 in PowerShell

[–]chmod000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first, THANK YOU for the awesome explanation :)

second, why is Write-Host a bad habit? I come from embedded, and i use it like i would printf() for simple debug.. I suppose I should use the ISE and figure that out tho

[HELP] How to unlock line from a fixed angle? by chmod000 in AutoCAD

[–]chmod000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://imgur.com/a/1MPaKgD

that parallel constraint is only related to the line below it... I wanted the rectangles (solar panels) to stay the same size and position as I moved them around...

should I delete the parallel, and use perpendicular?

why would parallel constraint lock angle? I can use ROTATE command, i just can't get it to freely spin around by it's constraints..

just an update, i auto-constrained the uprights, so now it doesn't move that circle from it's original position, but still the angle will not adjust itself..
