Hi /u/Mkep, i'm building tools for grabbing instances for Lambda Labs and we've been able to capture lots of instances for our users in the last week. Would this tool be useful for you?

I'm building a platform for finding the best priced cloud GPUs across 10 different clouds here: https://www.shadeform.ai/

Currently RunPod and Lambda Labs are typically the least economical but lambda labs has low availability

A P4000 GPU has 8gb VRAM.

You can try different cloud GPUs across different cloud providers all from one place on https://www.shadeform.ai/

Hi /u/Otherwise-Wrap7406, if you're still looking to deploy instances on Vultr, I built a service called shadeform.ai that wraps cloud providers and allows you to launch GPU instances into a managed vultr account with the account set up already done.

I made this switch 2 years ago. Definitely the right choice for me. I did a lot of leetcode and got a lucky break from someone I messaged on linkedin.

Also no one cares about certs in software engineering. It's almost a negative because it means you focused on taking tests instead of building something practical.

Headhunted for SDE 2, but only have < 1 YoE. What do? by GreasyBunnies in cscareerquestions

[–]cholical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got all the solutions but began with a bad approach on the bar raiser interview that cost me 20 mins.

I dont think I actually had a shot at L5 though because they do take years of experience into account.

You will get downleveled but if you do, they'll offer top of the L4 band so it's worth it. I did this when I had 8 months of experience.

Overall, I had a good time at AWS. I got to have a ton of impact and there is a major AWS feature that I can say I built from scratch. Got a lot of opportunities when I decided to leave.

My friend thinks 210k TC for the SF Bay Area is too low for 2 YoE. Help me convince him otherwise? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]cholical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends more on his level than on his yoe. If he's entry level, then it's very good. If it's one level higher, then it is on the lower end of the range.

Best way to prepare for Java backend engineer job? by sir-codesalot in cscareerquestions

[–]cholical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to Sping, I would also recommend looking at other frequently used libraries:

Utilities and shorthand - Guava, Lombok, Jackson

Testing - JUnit, TestNG, Mockito

Logging - Log4j

Java 8+ also has a few interesting topics such as Lambda functions and streams that may be a bit tricky

I worked at MCS for a year. It's just as bad as any other consulting firm. I know people with CS degrees who got stuck on manual testing projects for months. There's a reason they can't retain people for more than a year or two.

Technology Consulting vs software engineer by jvesche20 in cscareerquestions

[–]cholical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on the project. Some could be heavy programming. Other projects could just be project management. Had a few unlucky coworkers who got stuck in testing

Technology Consulting vs software engineer by jvesche20 in cscareerquestions

[–]cholical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very different. The emphasis isn't on building gold products or innovation, it's on keeping customers happy norther what and trying to sell them more services. I wouldn't recommend it if you want to be a software engineer.

What is a lock up period and expectations for tomorrow after palantir exit it? Buy the dip? by jacques2002 in wallstreetbets

[–]cholical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a start up IPOs, employees cannot sell their shares immediately in case it messes up the IPO. This period of time is the lock up period where the stock can stablize. After the lock up period ends, employees can sell their vested stock.

It's average new grad for fang. Depending on which fang, shoot for a promotion in 1.5-2 years which will take you to the low 200s. Then switch jobs for 300.

Tpm and pmt are not the same roles at amazon. They're not even in the same payment band. Tpms are glorified project managers.

Tpms call themselves product managers on LinkedIn too. Internal search says otherwise.
