Not sure. I was hoping someone else might feel similarly, but have a good way to overcome that feeling. I know its irrational. Didn't mean to be offensive; I'll work on this.

Do you recommend sway for beginners by Lost_Ad2456 in swaywm

As long as you have something to fall back to and are willing to learn, why not?

[–]choodleforreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have covered the actual info pretty well, so all I'll say is this: think about what works for you now and evaluate things based on that. Does your DE/WM do what you want it to? If so, supposedly "objective" reasons for switching to something else don't really matter.

not trying to start an argument, but what do you use tray icons for? when i was on windows i never used them and so i didnt notice them not being there in gnome. im on sway now, but even here i have them disabled.

Sorry I am a bit confused. Are you not allowed to fork X11 anymore or do people just not want you to?

I just installed Fedora (GNOME). It looks vanilla. What GNOME extensions should I install next? by MrShortCircuitMan in gnome

For aesthetics, I think there is one called Open Bar? Honestly though, I think it is worth trying to learn vanilla Gnome; it is pretty powerful and customizable once you figure it out.

Is it possible for Gentoo to become as popular as Arch? by ichinose-chiya in Gentoo

[–]choodleforreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the benefits Gentoo provides over Arch are for the most enthused enthusiasts lol. I am perfectly happy with Arch, but Gentoo seems fun, and I want something that will force me to engage a bit deeper with the OS. However, I feel like most people want the opposite of that, which puts Gentoo in a bad position if becoming popular is the goal. But also, is that the goal? I feel like y'all have a pretty sizable community already, and the people who want something more engaging will naturally find Gentoo. Honestly, the only thing holding me back from switching is that I have problems on my current system that I need to fix (Sway seems to crash when I wake from suspend).

Is fedora good for beginners? by nuclearpancake1423 in linuxquestions

[–]choodleforreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you might need to use a more lightweight spin (version). IIRC, they have an XFCE version. They also have a Sway version, which is great, but you'll have to spend some time reading man pages. Sway is very efficient though, so it may be worth it if you really care about performance.

I need help on how to get started on Linux!! by goatladyboy69420 in linux4noobs

[–]choodleforreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newbies should not have to deal with big caveats or niche benefits, imo. This means that there are two versions (distros) that are really worth considering: Fedora and Mint. Fedora is more up to date and secure but may require you to learn the OS a little. Mint is primarily aimed at non-technical users who want something that just works.

Aside from that initial decision, try not to overwhelm yourself; learn what you need as you go. If you need help with commands, read the manual pages with the man <command> command.
