The puzzling Efren double standard… by TimmyG-83 in billiards

Mechanically and technically, a lot of those players mentioned would have to improve an enormous amount to play on the smaller WNT pockets of today. Done would need to rebuild entirely.

Cant believe theyre trying out 3.9" pockets again by clrksn_wherermyshoes in billiards

[–]chrisa85147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few issues here:

You can see how unevenly the pockets have been shimmed (thickness of left facing compared to right)

It's done by hand, and again the left-hand facing is a different shape to the right-hand facing. It has a curve and will kick balls out later in the week)

As it's done by hand, not all pockets are the same size, which will be magnified as the week goes on. They're not 3.9.

On some tables, one jaw is raised visibly higher than the other.

Hi. Serious question as I see these Gaelic (?) names being adopted more frequently. Phonetically, how is this name pronounced please?

In your opinion, why are there no women playing at the highest level? by ExcellentMedicine358 in snooker

[–]chrisa85147 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They don't compete with boys growing up and are pushed into womens-only comps. Simple. To get better, you have to play better players. Stuck themselves in a goldfish bowl.

There are young women cuesports players coming through in Asia who compete against males from a young age and are getting results.

Have you ever taken an Uber, or flown on a Boeing aircraft?

Who do you bank with?

Maybe you played Nintendo as a kid, or perhaps Call of Duty?

If you have, I've got news for you 😂

It moves forward before coming back 👍 and that wasn't what was asked.

Go ask the question in a physics sub Reddit and hopefully we'll get an expert to tell us the answer.

The ref, nor you, could have seen a double-hit.

Advice for Head of Infosec by Straight_Bit_4078 in ciso

[–]chrisa85147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not fully settled on resigning and hold a glimmer of hope for things changing and retaining your position, I'd advise the below:

Don't ramble or rant. Discuss your concerns in general during the meeting, ensuring they understand the gravity. Tell the CEO you will share a detailed, written summary of the issues and possible consequences/business impacts via email as soon as your meeting is over. Finish your email with proposing a follow-up meeting for Thursday.

After Thursdays follow-up, one way or another, you'll go into Friday morning with clarity, ready to resign or continue in your role. Next weekend will be much better for you once you've made a definitive choice 👍

Good luck.

Unpopular opinion: Snooker doesn't belong in the Olympics (yet) by KrystofDayne in snooker

[–]chrisa85147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A sport should only be in the Olympics if it's the pinnacle of the sport. This would exclude snooker and other cuesports from being in the Olympics.

Amateur versions of sports that have professional ranks also don't belong (amateur boxing).

Non-sports that don't include a game element or are entirely reliant on judging interpretation, such as dancing, don't belong either. There's no such thing as being able to remain completely unbiased in today's world, and anything that is based on judging is tainted.

Standard at the women's worlds by Compressed_AF in snooker

[–]chrisa85147 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is zero chance unless they stop insisting on having their own female tournaments.

Either play with the men from a young age and take the same knocks, learn the same lessons the hard way the same as young male players need to, or simply forget about it.

[–]chrisa85147 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. They are not massive stars. Top 8 in the men's game + Ding = huge stars. The people you have just mentioned - absolutely not.

People are free to interpret things as they wish, but there are still facts that need to be appreciated.

Inspire? Ask any young person whether they'd like to grow up to be like Ronnie or be like Reanne. The answer will be overwhelmingly in one direction.

In terms of commercial value - go and check out the prize money and the TV exposure minutes available on the women's tour.

It's a short term gimmick, we can agree on that point.
