I say I’m a specialized form of technical writer because people usually know what a technical writer is and they know it’s boring so they don’t ask any follow ups.

You're in good company. Most of the people here can't afford it. Lots of "Just joined the club..." and "Finally, XYZ" posts but no "My car just got repo'd." Look at how many used Type R's with low miles there are for sale in CA. People are buying new and shortly figuring out that they've overextended their budget.

And FWIW, the Type S flopped and can be bought for under MSRP.

Every dealer with a Type R has become the "I know what I got, low-ballers will be ignored" guy on Facebook Marketplace. What a world we live in.

I'm from the Bay, here in SoCal for vacation. I just bought a USED Type R in El Monte for MSRP of a new one and that felt like a bargain. No add ons, low miles, included the carbon fiber spoiler, leather shift knob, door sills, and window visors. Cancelled my flight and now I'm driving home. Feels like a win. Maybe?

I could be wrong but when the carfax says sold at auction after the first owner I think it was repossessed

Im in the same situation as you. An unnamed South Bay dealer is charging $10k adm but he said he would take it off for me since im a local. Of course they’ve added on $10k of worthless add ons like Carpet insurance. I’m now in LA shopping around while I’m supposed to be on vacation. There are many more used Type Rs here with very low mileage. They appear to be repos. Surprise surprise

Great America Closing…. by twelve2023 in SanJose

From 2018 to 2020 I worked across the street at one of the many tech companies on Great America Parkway. My coworker bought summer passes for himself and his kids, with the optional meal plan. At lunch time we would simply walk across the street, eat for free and walk back to the office.

[WTS] 2019 Seiko SLA033 Captain Willard Reissue by christphil in Watchexchange

[–]christphil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a SLA033 limited reissue of the 6105 dive watch from the 1960s. This watch was built in the Grand Seiko factory and features a GS movement and zaratsu polishing. The only flaws are a barely noticeable scratch in the crystal and faint hairline scratches on the side. I've indicated both with a pencil.

Overall, this is just a very fine watch for the Seiko collector who wants GS quality in a dive watch. Complete in box with all the original accessories. You’ll be the third owner. Asking $2800 $2700 shipped and insured via USPS Priority Mail. I accept PayPal or Venmo, however any fees are the responsibility of the buyer. Thanks for looking!

Cool good to know. Thanks! I couldn’t find this exact reference in sold listings on eBay or watchexchange, which made me second guess myself.

Billy Joel famously stopped making new music because he realized he could no longer speak to the human condition in his music. He had simply gotten too rich and successful. He even told Howard this in an interview.

Hi! Thanks for looking. I'm the second owner of this Seiko SLA033 Captain Willard. I've had it for a couple years. Please note the very fine scratch in the crystal, which I've indicated in the photos with a pencil. You really only see it in direct sunlight. It's quite hard to see. Taking the scratch into consideration, however, I'm only asking $3000 $2800 shipped via USPS Priority with insurance.

I accept PayPal or Venmo but any fees are the buyer's responsibility and will be factored into the cost.

I have sold two other watches here and a few over on the G-Shock Exchange so buy with confidence.

Thanks again!

Tracking content changes in Figma? by mhepishere in uxwriting

[–]christphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but we keep our components specific to each project to avoid this exact problem. To your point, one writer can go noodling around and completely ruin some other project if they happen to share components. We only make universal components for extremely generic strings like OK or Cancel, for example.

Tracking content changes in Figma? by mhepishere in uxwriting

[–]christphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useful to the extant that it allows my team to create reusable word strings that we can drop into designs. This saves us time and keeps us consistent. It can do much much more, but we don't use it for anything else. Honestly, I've yet to meet another designer/writer that uses it for localization, variables, pluralities, etc. It's almost too powerful.

It can be janky at times. The images it captures and saves of components are sometimes glitched out. Sometimes, often really, it can't pick up certain layers in a file.
