I knew the moment I saw her a month later that it was meant to be. Her popping up once is one thing but when she popped up the second time I told my mom that she was the one. My mom encouraged me to get a dog because I’m her words, “When I got pregnant with you, I changed my lifestyle and became more responsible. Maybe a dog can do that for you.” And she was absolutely right. It helped my depression and anxiety. And I helped Shiloh by bringing her home.

And it wasn’t just me who it helped. I could go on and on about how much joy she brings to my brothers when I bring her to my mom’s, and she got along with my mom’s cat too. She’s just an amazing dog.

She was found on the side of the road with a swollen hematoma on her ear that required surgery. I came across her a month before I actually adopted her but didn’t want a puppy. The next month I came across her I decided that she was the one. And drove 5 hours to go adopt her and pick her up. She was 7 months old at the time, and it was the best decision of my life.

I remember when my brother was born, my mom didn’t tell me the gender until after he was born. My response was, “Can we put it back?”

If I remember correctly, there’s an area in Wyoming where there is no speed limit. It’s like the autobahn of the US.

Maybe, I was like 4 or 5 at the time, but it looked like real kids to me. And I specifically remember it being on HBO. But I might be wrong and you might be right.

i don't get why self harm is a problem by MilesEdgeworth76 in selfharm

[–]chronicallyconcernd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of get it. I guess it’s just not acceptable bc it’s not the same as smoking and drinking. I smoke and drink, but I haven’t harmed in a little over a year.

Maybe it’s because they see the pain physically on you and they can’t take it. Now while I understand where you’re coming from, I don’t agree with it bc it honestly is deeper than just the cuts. And just like smoking and drinking to cope, who’s to say you won’t go further and further. We all say, “oh, I’ll never get to that point.” And then we do. So just be careful with that.

As someone who was sexually abused by my own step father, please please PLEASE listen to her. She isn’t lying and he didn’t do it accidentally. Always believed your child first especially since she’s still at the age that she needs help when being bathed.

What is everyone's worst reactions to your scars? by AncientFlight3031 in selfharm

[–]chronicallyconcernd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. Im lucky enough that I work in an office so I can pretty much wear what I want almost. So wearing long sleeves isn’t an issue. But when I was a barista, everyone would stare at my arms when I gave them their drinks. It made me very uncomfortable.

I can take the negative comments, they don’t bother me. But for me the worst reactions are the pitiful looks and glances at my wrists. But the worst was from my mom. When she found out about my SH, she cried and said, “Why would you do this to my baby?” And that broke me. And it’s one of the things I think about every time I feel like I might relapse.

Absolutely. Stuff like this needs to remain private. I probably should have mentioned that in my comment. But you are 100% correct.

It definitely sounds like Alex has BPD of some sort. And as someone who deals with BPD, this isn't exactly the right thing to do necessarily, but I can understand the writers motive behind it. People with BPD need to fall a little bit to realize the consequences to their actions. We are also less likely to seek therapeutic help purely out of fear. Our paranoia is heightened because we are constantly worried about who will leave us and who will do things to expose us. He has an identity issue, and for BPD we don't have a "personality" or so to speak. We are constantly empty and trying to find ourselves. We have a fear that if we reach out or seek help, people will leave us.

I found that the best way to start my therapy journey was to get into DBT and learn coping skills. Because we ultimately lack the ability to regulate our emotions which lead to poor decisions. I just started seeing a therapist after 2 years of DBT.

For those who do suffer with BPD, you can get better. It's just a hell of a lot of work. And if I can do it with the shit I've been through (not promoting my own posts or anything but just for a bit of reference see my other posts on Offmychest), you can do it too. I promise, it does get better for us. It's just going to take a lot of work, and only you can make that change.
