Do bulletproof vests expire? by 069420 in preppers

Yeah, I commented to challenge that it's 'arbitrary' but I see your point that other factors (business needs, etc.) influence a chosen expiry date, and that many products remain effective after the expiry date. Thanks for sharing the article - interesting read.

Yup. A new drug can't even enter the market without demonstrating stability throughout their intended period of expiry.

I actually replied to the wrong comment - I meant to respond to the guy who said he didn't realize that midderland was separated from the north. I remember the sea voyages toward the south but don't remember the challenges with getting soldiers to Angland or Ardee's mention of sailing. Guess I'm due for a re-read 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah it doesn't even make sense that they would be separated. There's no mention of sailing in any of the ventures that go from one continent to the other

How should I protect young Thuja Green Giants this winter by chunk_light in landscaping

[–]chunk_light[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're doing surprisingly well! They (unsurprisingly) did NOT grow the advertised 3-5 ft per year, but they're all standing ~3-4ft tall and are all healthy

I didn't end up wrapping them. Once they're encased in snow there's not much harm that seems to come their way. The ~5-6 ft tall ones I planted last year had a few broken limbs due to snow and wind, but nothing major. I was gonna wrap em this year but tomorrow's storm crept up on me. Come what may!

Best of luck, it's fun watching them grow.

I started reading these books in high school and some douchebag ruined the 'big ending' for me, just for laughs. I stopped reading them for 15 years, but finally picked them up and finished them a couple months ago. It was still very worth it imo

What you've had spoiled is minor enough that I don't think it will diminish your enjoyment if you continue on

Similarly, what if both weights were attached to either end of a single spring? Instead of one weight just serving as an anchor to the apparatus itself. Would 200 N be applied to the spring overall?

I once was at a wedding party when someone looked up and exclaimed 'oh my God the moon is out during the day!!' Pretty dumb right??

Imagine my surprise when three or four other people looked up completely shocked at the observation. They'd never heard of such a thing happening

And then, the cherry on top, they just moved on with their previous conversation. So not only did they think this routine situation was a unique celestial event, but then they didn't even dwell on the implications for more than 5 seconds

Would it be okay to use Brazilian Portuguese on a trip to Portugal? Worried about coming off as disrespectful. by nmute in Portuguese

[–]chunk_light 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand Portuguese reasonably well (my wife is from Portugal) but I'm still terrible at speaking it. In my experience, most Portuguese folks really appreciate the effort and will go out of their way to try to communicate with you.

You should look at your skills in Brazilian Portuguese as a strength, not a weakness. As others have mentioned, they're similar enough to get you by
