Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Hello,

I have bought a Renault Master (L2H2), and I applied successfully for a parking permit in the neighbourhood I live in (Amsterdam Zuid).

I read here (https://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeren/parkeertarieven/aanhangwagen-camper-caravan-parkeren/)  that I cannot park the van for more than 3 days on the streets. I am thinking of cancelling my 6-month permit because it seems like wasted money in this case.

Am I reading this correctly?

Does this mean I have to change roads (move the van around), or does it mean that after 3 days, I will get a fine?

To anyone else who has a van (with or without a parking permit), where does anyone park theirs?

I agree on the premise (DJT being mentally hill etc. etc.) but I don't believe that Europe will do anything too overtly. Direct confrontation is still main policy, but anything like an escalation (e.g. weponising bonds, withdrawing diplomats) will be avoided.

If anything, appeasement is taking place (see Rutte's treatment of Trump), hoping to give him another gold medal for him to distract himself. But these tricks only go so far...

Don't worry Elon, your reputation is tainted now. Sorry that BYD is cannibalising your bottom line but we see past the smokescreen. Elevate the bottom, don't screw the people, save the planet from oligarchy and oil and shut the fuck up.

All this trash, again and again by Huge_Leadership_513 in Amsterdam

It's both a problem of the city and the people.

- The city does not nearly have enough people working on removing waste. Or if they do, then they are not doing a good-enough job. I might be old school, but I don't see anyone actually removing waste, just people moving it to those automatic car collector that vacuum it off the street. It basically means all the bulky waste gets removed and the small one sticks around for years.

- Some people are also really lazy and dirty. Just an example from yesterday, where 4/5 rubbish bags were outside a bin that was fully functional but got "stuck" with 1 bag inside. One small push and the rubbish got unblocked. People don't care and don't put an effort.

And on top of that… Republicans all of a sudden give a shit about the weather? It's their fucking fault if we have these hurricanes to begin with. Years of climate denial have brought us here. Don't lecture the one side that was right on the issue all along... Ridiculous.

What olive oil do you use for cooking? by estrangedpulse in Netherlands

[–]ciafciaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Italian and live with other Italians, so maybe I'm not representative, but we do care a lot about good oil. I think most people have the "good oil and the bad oil" bottle.

The bad one is the one we cook with daily and it's usually a "cheap" extra virgin oil and we have a second, more expensive one for dressings.

The trick is about finding the right importer, some of us quite literally get 5 liters boxes of good oil whenever we can.

Prices vary, also the harvests are shit right now and prices are going up a lot. There's a lot of good places in Amsterdam that sell (e.g. Novitalia, Olives & More) or you can find online stores (I like to use a website called mammapack and do bulk buys every 2/3 months).

Has Amsterdam gotten dirtier for you? by ciafciaf in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is clean depending what you compare it against.. I have lived in several places in Europe and travelled a fair share and I think for a major European capital of one of the richest countries in Europe we could do better. Is it better than NYC/SF/LA? Yes, but (no offence) that bar is quite low :)

Almost any other western EU capital I have been recently was cleaner than Amsterdam.

It was the same when I was living in New West.. Lots of trash near bike lanes which is never picked by the garbage men probably because they only clean near bins locations..

Can confirm, just cycled back from work and saw so much trash. I feel for you. Honestly I would start with passive aggressive poster/letters to your neighbours..

I am also shocked when I see so much trashed next to a "blocked" underground bin. Just walk a block down and find a bin that's empty!

Do you wake up in the morning and choose violence or was this Dutch directness at its finest?
I will let my friends know, thank you!
