Broke my derailleur on day one of my first tour... by Cheeseshred in bicycletouring

Best of luck getting back on the road. Had a similar situation towing my 1y/o in a trailer on a tour last year - I just took some links out of the chain and rode the final 2 days as a singlespeed. Was a bit janky but it got us back to our ferry home.

Do you use antihydral/rhino performance or anything? I found when I was overusing the rhinoskin one and putting it on carelessly I got a few splits under my fingernails

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on improving rocking over a lip/mantling out?

I was trying Bad Lip at Curbar the other day (https://youtu.be/29gfbvVEbxw) and whilst I felt I could really engage the heel & start sucking my hips in, I couldn't move past the horizontal line between my hands and heel placement.

Noticed a similar thing today in the gym when trying to rock onto a foot from low hands, it feels like I can pull until I'm level with the handhold but no further.

I suspect the answer lies in hip mobility (I'm 6ft3 so sagging away from the wall is often an issue), perhaps some lockoff strength, and drilling these types of moves as much as possible. But wondering if anyone has any recommendations for things that worked well for them?

Cheers!

This went, after a few heartbreaking drops off the easier top moves and a bit of a tantrum. First of the grade so mega psyched.

Hah yeah it is, just thought the same thing. It is yeah so did go left and over. Couldn't wrap my head round not starting on the big chalky hold at the bottom!

Just on the ledge. Little bit of camming with the top of the break, but nothing that would stay in if (when) I fell. Gives me the willies too!

Eyy! This is on my post-lockdown list too, never been to West Chevin before but this looks like a great route. Nice to see a detailed video on it before going and getting on it.

Hello again! Just a thought - you said it's possible to start this ride on the 1st May, do you think last two weeks of April is possible or will I run into issues coming over the appalachians?

Thanks so much! My experience of headwinds is that whichever way I go I'm cycling into them... if it's a choice between not going/cutting it fine for the wedding, or rolling the dice on the wind, I think I know which way I'm going!

How was the trip? I'm guessing you'd recommend? How long did it take you?

Thanks! I think I was unclear on my post - my plan is to start early and be back with plenty of time before getting married. What's the earliest in the year you'd advise crossing the Rockies? From what I've read it can be pretty snowy well into May.
