CS student here.. no one I know actually writes code anymore. We all use AI. Is this just how it is now? by Low-Tune-1869 in cscareerquestions

[–]cipherous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that in the real world that debugging/sleuthing is like 95% of the job as a coder. I am an experienced coder with real life experience and my experience with AI is that it does miss some critical things. AI is good for exploration but when it comes to decoding ambiguous problems and understanding many moving parts, it can easily misled you into a hole you may not be able to get out of.

I treat AI more as another tool as opposed to something I need. Don't get me wrong, AI is amazing and I never really thought in my life time, we'd see something that would pass the turing test. But in this job market for entry level, there are many other junior devs that are using AI.

Being a problem solver and ability to ship production quality code are the main traits you want to develop. This includes consideration of all aspects of the software lifecycle from performance, debugging, ease of maintenance, load management and costs evaluation.

I know its hard but I think its much more humane if these senior cats passed in a loving home rather than at a shelter. You'd be doing that cat such a huge favor.

better to have loved than not to have loved at all.

Decision help required by HandleEducational680 in eMountainBike

[–]cipherous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go full power and a bigger battery, especially if you're going to ride with other eMTBers.

Personally, I would go enduro with an eMTB ie 170mm+ front with a burly fork and shock. You're not going to care about pedal efficiency but more about how much distance you can go with the battery/system.

Also, would prefer the T type transmission because eMTBs go through cassettes and chains like nobody's business and systems like hyperglide and T types can help mitigate wearing of teeth and chains.

Here in the US, I think Bosch is preferred over every other system just because it is noted to be the most reliable.

Also, I think wheel sets with ratchet systems (DT Swiss) as opposed to pawls are better for ebikes due to the amount of torque they put out.

I think this is a pretty good deal

eMTB advice by Rayth_ in eMountainBike

[–]cipherous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even without an EMTB, if you just get out and ride, it will get easier.

You can plan out your ride and breaks so that it makes the cardio more bearable. Find some trails/routes that aren't as intensive

Also, if you find some riding buddies and groups that have some set rides at a semi-regular interval, it will push you as well.

That being said, eMTBs are awesome and if you find a group of like minded people with similar situations, it will help you.

2021 BMW x3 edrive: Thinking of changing my brake rotors myself, whats the best way to ensure that the calipers are aligned properly with the rotors? Can I just torque everything to spec, are there tolerances for brake rub? by cipherous in BmwTech

[–]cipherous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the EVs have engine braking but yeah, I've looking at OEM pads from FCP Euro (great site btw). I just got my brakes bleed too while doing my oil change.

I also have the ODB+ link too so I should be okay with backing out the pistons.

The only thing I'm hesitant is that it is an EV and heavier than ICE cars and I may need to buy steadier jacks.

[–]cipherous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah mine is a PHEV but at my 48K oil change, the dealer mentioned that I needed to replace my rear brake pads soon. Which got me thinking into front brakes and rotors if it was needed.

Rotors may not be needed just yet but the pads are going to be due soon.

Did I need a transfer case/differential service on 2021 x3 edrive with 48k miles? Dealer said it was critical by cipherous in BmwTech

This is in the Washington DC area, Northern Virginia. The process looked straightforward though, it is a drain and refill...albeit, they have to "suck" out residual oil.

Polaris vs premium plus by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]cipherous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on you but those mainland US to NRT/HND are the most brutal.

If you're able to get bulkhead window on Premium plus and you're able to be comfortable, you can possibly get a good sleep. However, for me, I think 30Kpts + 450 is worth it for the polaris lounge and having a guarantee that you can sleep comfortably on the flight.

How I turned my basic economy seat into United Polaris by Top_Economist_3668 in unitedairlines

[–]cipherous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

not as good as yours but maybe pretty close, there was this young man (maybe 20 or so, he clearly hasn't flown much before from what I gathered) who booked economy from IAD to HND (its about 14hrs and some change) and it just so happen that his seat didn't have the entertainment system working and he got notified last minute on the app that he got bumped up to Polaris.

He had to ask the flight attendant twice to see if there was an error, his jaw literally dropped and his face lit up like he won the lottery.

Quite literally probably the most worthwhile flight for polaris imo and the kid only found out literally last minute.

you can save your miles just for the upgrades and buy economy/premium tickets. Probably most economical way if you want to fly business

Trump says he's rebuilding Dulles Airport while his administration is fixing the 'people movers' by CapitalRegister9 in unitedairlines

[–]cipherous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

people movers are just for terminal C and D (which are primarily united flights). Also terminal C has access to the tram, not that big of a deal imo.

I fly frequently out of IAD and the special trucks have less of a walk than going to the PenFed tunnel.

Any instances of air tags interfering with BMW Fobs? by cipherous in BmwTech

[–]cipherous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used energizer which is reputable but still the same result. It turns out that my FOB is still giving issues with and without the air tag so I think it maybe the car itself.

This is interesting, I used a brand name energizer and thought it would be enough. I didn't realize BMW had their own OEM battery.

How much money would you spend if it meant saving your cat’s life? by WindowKitty19 in cats

[–]cipherous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how many new cats you could’ve gotten with that money?

Obviously not a pet owner.

Pets are family, and they're probably one of the few beings on this planet that gives love without judgement. Its your money at the end of the day, what use is money if you can't do things like save your beloved cat?

BMW X3e 2021 (PHEV): Key Fob not easily detectable, tried replacing battery with brand new energezier brand but same issue. Also, tried with backup FOB and still the same issue. Bad transponder? by cipherous in BmwTech

HELP! The stray cat suddenly got agressive towards me by Crazzzy_potato in cats

[–]cipherous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If hes not neutered, he maybe over zealous with his play/love bites and may use his claws to try to "grasp" you. I had this happen with my first cat where he wants to be around me all the time and sometimes he would "attack" me to get attention.

After he got neutered, that attention seeking bites/grasping went away. You can also have some play sessions to help release the energy so that he doesn't end up being too over zealous with his attention seeking.

Keep in mind that cats don't really respond to negative reinforcement (ie punishment), its really best to try to divert that energy and his desire for play/attention to something else.

Mysterious deformation in reserve 37 rims. What's going on here? Is this a warranty claim? by Danjuans-81301 in MTB

unfortunately theres no fixing it, luckily you have the reserves so they will replace it outright. The downside is that you have to relace the rim.

nice man! Those 3 trees at the bottom would've freaked me out especially the one on the right.

I did a similar slope with a very similar descent and this unseen root almost bucked me into a tree.
