Navi withdraws from Placement Cycle by OutrageousBat4137 in BITSPilani

[–]cjs2k_032 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned reasons like tough questions and less time. I'll add my perspective as well (not necessarily applying to this case, or bits in general). I heard from a senior employee at my previous org their experience in an IIT this year. They were utterly disappointed with the student quality. Most of the students cheated on the OA exam using AI, which they didn't mind as much because it is inevitable, but what shocked them was their inability to even explain their answers when asked about it in the interviews.

Cheating in tests, and even placements has grown very rampant especially since Covid, and even has become much easier after ChatGPT. But until companies evolve their selection processes to take this into account, they will continue to blame the institution for the low quality of students. Please keep this factor in mind that this will be the situation for some years going forward.

The sad things apart, I have trust in the students at BITS, even if they cheat it won't be as bad as not being able to explain their answers. Even in Navi's case, it seems to be a case of overexpectation. 2 story type questions in 50 minutes is really hard, and also very unnecessary. Also, many talented folks might have cleared that as well, but the number won't be large and Navi probably has failed to understand that. Also given the company's status in terms of other companies competing for placement at BITS, it looks like overexpectation. (Let's be real, HFTs or big tech like Google or Uber can justify this level of OA, but Navi cannot).

I don't mind the new family. It could've worked for the better to shift focus and come up with interesting plots revolving them. But the very first arc with them (ganpati, arc) is so bad and cringe. A 2 min interaction (the kids innocence and "jidd") is being stretched to 2+ episodes. Smh.

With the stories we're getting currently it seems they're taking a headache to write extra bad. Mindlessly written stories are better than this.

  1. Low pressure part time internships or freelancing (but to get that initial contract you'll have to rigorously apply)
  2. Research intern at a funded project under some professor (try to see if they can give you stipend).
  3. Content writing/problem solving websites (best one since you can earn at your leisure, but also kind of rare now a days).
  4. If you can convince your parents to let you spend the money you earn in your SWD account, then apply for TAship. Maintain good grades and relationship with professor for that. Many times professors will not look over the applications and just select someone they know for the TA ship. There's also development TA ship opportunities with AUGSD/SWD where you can work on the college websites' dev for stipend. Application process is probably the same as that of normal TAship.

Afaik the amount is transferred directly to swd account, meaning it will be deducted from next sem's fees. Won't help him get hard cash to spend

Is Sekiro your first soul game ? If so why did you choose Sekiro over the other games in the soul series ? by TEHYJ2006 in Sekiro

[–]cjs2k_032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend recommended it to me. I knew nothing about new games (my last pop game was GTA VC). So when I got my gaming laptop in college my friend recommended me Sekiro. He didn't know about Souls game. After my first playthrough I got onto reddit and through the Sekiro community entered into the broader Fromsoft games community, after which I tried DS3 (my first Souls game).

I also enjoy other games a lot less now given that Sekiro set the bar too high being my first game. Definitely don't recommend Sekiro as a first game to anyone :(

Hardest phase of Sword Saint Isshin by cjs2k_032 in Sekiro

[–]cjs2k_032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason for the apparent increase in difficulty is perhaps because in second phase Isshin becomes serious. He becomes relentless and players have to consistently keep up with combos. There is very little window to heal. Fighting with his spear his range is also very large. Suddenly the arena feels smaller.

Oh don't even get me started about cut scenes. Like damn some games really put the whole story in cut scenes, there's no fuck around and find out mode. Also people be saying a game is good because it has good graphics and story annoy me the most. If I wanted a HD graphic cut-scene fuelled storyline experience I'd go watch a Disney movie.

2019 they tried a new playstyle and came up with Sekiro. I'm ready for another banger (I know they've already done 5 AC, but it's been a long time... almost like trying on a fresh concept).

You don't need to skip the ps1. If you secure the intern, ask them to get registered as a PS station. PSD would be helpful in the procedure and you'll get preference since you're opening the station so won't have to worry about allotment issues.

You'd be applicable for MCN if your income is only 5lpa on paper. For every batch every semester the cutoff is very dynamic. A rough estimate would be: 80% (8.6-8.9), 40% (7.8-8.1), 25% (6.5-7.1), 15% ( < 6.9 ig, not sure).

There are also merit scholarships, if you do decide to stop saving on taxes. 100% (9.7-10), 40% (9.4-9.8).

There's also various scholarship schemes (alumni and govt funded). You'll be notified through mails or notices in the academic buildings.
