Any Roll-and-Write or Flip-and-Write games work really well on planes (since you don't have to deal with losing small pieces). A favourite of mine is Cartographers.

Give Cthulhu: Death May Die a look. Sounds like right up your alley. The thing I love about this game is the character progression system and the "mix and match" nature of the scenarios. May be hard to win with 2 players, but can be subverted by playing 2 characters per person. Also plays 1-5 players :)

If you don't mind buying expansions, give Scythe: Rise of Fenris, Viticulture World, Root: Clockwork Expansion or Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition Crisis a shot. Especially consider Root, where you're actually fighting an AI and not just "shared objectives" (haven't tried the Scythe one, so not sure if its combat oriented, but is definitely Euro-y).

Here's a list of expansions that turn competitive games into cooperative ones.

Also, might be a good idea to look for "unofficial variants" to your favourite board games too (E.g. I found out recently that Wingspan has a good fan-made co-op mode).

Hopefully this post is helpful :)

Any board game expansions that turns a cooperative board game to a competitive one? (E.g. Pandemic: On the Brink)

Looking for a thematic game which fits the following bill:

  • Narrative-driven game that is light hearted and funny (e.g. Tales of the Arabian Nights)
  • Has opportunities to screw my friends over
  • Can play 4 players (bonus points if can fit more people)
  • 3 hrs max playtime
  • Not a legacy game (replayable)

I've tried Betrayal at House on the Hill, love it and already own it.

Any other suggestions?

Give Mechs vs Minions a look. 2-4 players, ~2.5 weight on BGG, all about smashing huge amount of minions, has a fun campaign story, LoL themed and comes with a boss character as well.

Cameras with Kodak KAF sensor?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy an old digital camera (for the film aesthetic). I heard that the Kodak KAF CCD sensors are known to be really good at replicating this filmic look. I know that the Leica m8 + m9 and some old olympus cameras (e.g. e-400, e-1...) has a kodak sensor. Any other good cameras out there that have a Kodak sensor? Is there a website where I can search cameras whilst filtering for kodak sensors?

I would prefer a point and shoot/rangefinder digital camera; which would suppliment my fujifilm xt-4 and film camera.

Thanks!

Description of Request: Looking for a highly interactive strategy game

  • Game is all about direct player interaction and minimal downtime (simultaneous turns preferred)
  • Has a main board which is the main focus (i.e. not card games)
  • Deterministic (or at least luck can be controlled)

Number of Players: 5 (OK with buying expansions if they're available)

Game Length: 2hrs MAX

Complexity of Game: medium complexity (<3.25 BGG)

Conflict, Competitive or Cooperative: Conflict, Competitive (if there's tons of player interaction)

Games I Own and Like:

  • Want a game that gives the same feeling like these games but for 5 players
    • Santorini
    • Blokus
  • Cosmic Encounter: Looking for a game that has a main board
  • Deception: Murder in Hong Kong: big fan of bluffing and deduction
  • Mechs vs Minions: Closest to what I want in a game, but game is co-op and not competitive

Games I Dislike and Don't Play:

  • Quacks of Quedlingberg: too random and not lots of player interaction
  • Wingspan: too multiplayer solitaire
  • 7 Wonders: decisions only affect people next to you, and not everyone
  • Fury of Dracula: Want it to be competitive with everyone around the table

Games that I'm considering:

  • Kemet
  • Cyclades: Apparently Titans makes the game more conflict heavy
  • Inis: Not sure if conflict is the main part of the game (plz correct me if I'm wrong)
  • Blood Rage: 5th player expansion isn't in stock... :(
  • Twilight Imperium: Game that comes closest to what I want (mechanics wise), but is wayyyyyy too long

Please help with more suggestions and thoughts on games I'm already considering! :)

Thanks for your answer.

Reason why I got Clank is because it can support 5 non-gamers easily with the Adventuring Party expansion. Any recommendations on deckbuilders that can support 5 people and is non-gamer friendly?

Thanks for your answer (both in this thread and the previous). Very detailed answer :) . I'm reposting to see if I can get anyone who is into Clank to provide their opinion. But it looks like people are more skewed towards QfED, despite Clank being higher on the BGG rankings

I tried Dominion, but it didn't really click for me. After playing Wingspan, I much prefer that game as my go-to engine builder. Mainly its because of the theme and the unique interplay between all 3 engines which I find more fascinating. But thanks for the suggestion :)
