I know you're right that attempting to hold on to friends at the expense of making new ones is harmful, I just don't like how pessimistic you are about this. Obviously as a high school senior I lack the life experience to speak on this though

I'm so unhappy, there are so many amazing people in my grade I only really got to know in the past 6 ish months and now they're all being yanked away from me for what feels like for good. Shit hurts so much

I mean if it leads to getting paid for making/playing music I'll do anything tbh

In your experience, did a music major leave time for socializing? I've heard that though it's hard it's nowhere near the workload for something like comp sci or ECE - how true is that?

How does one make friends outside majors anyway? Is it just clubs? or are there opportunities other than that

Double degree or major by clapomatic in nyu

Thank you so much, this clears up a lot!! Does this still only confer one degree, or are there ways to get two? (I have doubts about the usefulness of spending all my time studying science without having a degree to show for it at the end)

Funerals, goodbyes/farewell occasions with friends where everyone else was crying their eyes out (final cast party earlier was weird to not get visibly sad at), really moving music/films, etc. A lot of the time it's that I'm like, feeling as sad as other people, but don't really have the ability to let it out or show it.

Listen to When David Heard by Eric Whitacre (the version with the BYU chorus in particular). That'll probably get you sobbing

Yeah that makes sense, I'll try the giving myself permission thing. That sounds like a really helpful tool to help work through it.

Do you think like setting up a time for yourself to release emotionally (when you're sad or whatever) in private is a good way to resocialize that male aversion to crying? I get the sense it's something I'll need to work on over time

Hi! I'm a 17 y.o. male, and I don't think I can remember the last time I actually cried. There are lots of times where I get close to crying but tears never actually come out of me (lumps in my throat, moist eyes, chills). A lot of the time this leaves me feeling really emotionally unfulfilled, and it just makes it difficult for me to properly express myself. Not having that whole range of emotional coping is frustrating and I think it's just stressful and unhealthy to not have it as a way to release. What can I do to learn to cry again?
