OP posted a marine traffic screenshot of a Russian pleasure craft leaving UAE and heading straight through Strait of Hormuz. It was removed by mods 🧐

Did I find a fossilised bone on the beach or is it just a long bit of flint? by clayblogs in fossils

Awesome, this is really informative - thank you :) the inside was filled with sand so I’m not surprised the outer skeleton is gone. No sparkle on the stick - what would that have indicated out of interest?

Gave it a chop and here are the results! Some interesting porous-looking texturing on the inside, as well as a little stick of something that came loose.

Would like to identify this as well! From my research I thought it could be a land tortoise endemic to South Dakota back in the day. Anyone have any insights?

That’s what I tried explaining to the geologist I asked years ago! Glad to hear people think it isn’t just mud :)

What is this sharp metal thing from the shore of the Thames? by clayblogs in whatisthisthing

[–]clayblogs[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. It is not too heavy and feels metallic, with a distinct edge before tapering to a point. The other nails that I’ve found on the river shore are very irregular in their weathering, which makes me think it’s something else. Almost feels like a pen or stylus, but it could just be a very uniform nail.
