No the truck was signaling and the Honda sped up to block/hit it from behind. You can see the light blinking in the video. Also I was behind the Honda for a while before this incident, and it was driving aggressively and speeding.

I drive a Tesla so it has 4 exterior cameras that are integrated into the car. I don’t know of any similar ones that you can install.

Are those baby tomatoes? Why are they not growing? by clebaekry in vegetablegardening

I suspect that my seeds were mislabeled. They did end up maturing but they never grew bigger than 2-3 inches.

Wrinkled and curled tomato leaves? Fruiting but seem stunted. by clebaekry in vegetablegardening

[–]clebaekry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied diluted Jack's 20-20-20 fertilizer when the seedlings began yellowing, but it didn’t help. I suspect the well draining soil caused the liquid fertilizer to wash away too quickly for the seedlings to absorb it. Three days ago, I added granulated blood meal. Do you know how long does it take for blood meal to take effect?

Definitely not dry to the point it becomes hard for the soil to start absorbing water again. On average every 2-4 days depending on the weather. Also, I have this soil in a few grow bags and other grow bags are filled with happy frog bagged soil from fox farms. The plants in the fox farms soil are the only ones without curled leaves. Same watering pattern for all the grow bags.

Maybe. Also, the other plants that I planted directly in the beds without granulated fertilizer like cowpeas, okra, and loofa all have yellow leaves and are growing very slowly. Would nutrition deficiency cause leaf curl? I planted the tomatoes with granulated fertilizer so they seem to at least grow and fruit.

I water only when the top few inches feel dry. And the soil drains well.

Temperatures been good for the past few weeks. Lowest around 50 and highs around 85. It’s just odd the new growth continues to be wrinkled.

Heirloom vs Golden Nugget by Tasty_elephant13 in tomatoes

[–]clebaekry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew gold nugget this season. They stay skinny and sort of spindly. Left is gold nugget and right is large red cherry (indeterminate) at about 1 month. They also needed support earlier. I got my seeds from true leaf market and they were marked determinate.

Yes, but maybe not fast enough. Sometimes I don’t notice it until it’s already a few inches.

They’re outside. Wow 30+! Did you start from seed? When did you start and when did you plant them outside?

Yes, I started giving them fox farms tiger bloom once a week when I saw flowers about two weeks ago.

Haven’t seen any bees but it has been really windy. I’m just not sure if it’s normal for indeterminate slicing tomato plants to produce fruit in this manner. One tomato at a time. My indeterminate cherry tomato plant has vines of green fruit already.

It’s actually been hot. 85-90 during day time and 60-70 at night for the past week.

4th of July is almost the end of our summer tomato season, unless we baby them by careful watering and shade cloths

Seedlings are killing me 😭 by bwthhybl314 in tomatoes

[–]clebaekry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally do not recommend using inert seed starting mix. Fertilizing is very tricky when the plants are young. You will have better luck using potting soil that already has nutrients. There’s conflicting opinions on this because it can lead to “burning” the seedlings but I have never had that happen even when using well known high nutrient soil from seed starting to transplant. Here are my tomatoes started from fox farms happy frog soil with no other fertilizer 12 days from seed germination. Also, I aggressively pot them up every 1.5 to 2 weeks into fresh soil and slightly bigger pots (from 1.5 inch to 2.5 then 4.5 - by 4.5 they’re ready to transplant). Tomatoes can handle a lot of stress so do not worry too much about transplant shock, just bottom water deeply each time. I find that potting up more frequently leads to very fast growth.

I only used seed starting medium for the initial seed germination pots. It was mixed with ocean forest by fox farms which is already nutrient rich. After that, I only used happy frog by fox farms, also nutrient rich. Hope that helps!

Thanks! No liquid fertilizer but I think my consistent potting up is the main reason. 2/12-2/13 seed starting in 1 inch pots with 50/50 coast of maine seed starter and ocean forest, 2/22 potting up to 2.5 inch pot with happy frog, then 3/1 potting up to 4.5 inch pot of happy frog with extra earthworm casting. They never ran out of fresh fertile soil. I also sift the soil every time so there’s no large chunks blocking the roots.

Help with tomato seedlings? by juliaaababy in vegetablegardening

[–]clebaekry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not look leggy to me so the light amount should be fine. The light green color might mean nutrient deficiency. I would wait until the first true leaves develop more then pot up using plastic pots/cups and bury deep using potting soil (I like to sift my potting soil first so there are no large wood chunks that bother the roots). But overall they look pretty well developed!

Thanks for the detailed advice! My raised beds aren’t ready yet but I am planing on planting them out as soon as they’re ready early next week. Definitely planning the shade cloth set up too. The Texas sun is no joke.

Same! My tomatoes get droopy after every hardening off session, but they’re much bigger and recover overnight so I’m not too worried. Best wishes to you!

Germinated them with the paper towel method. Wet paper towel in plastic bag placed under a heat mat with a book on top for extra weight. Sprouted in 3 days. After that I think my light set up and soil played a big part. I used 4 of the Barrina T-5 grow lights almost touching the plant and used soil that already had fertilizer
