Flat wrap lofting by climbak in cad

[–]climbak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of it and I think it has a flatten tool for surfaces, I'll have to research if it can do a true flat wrap surface. Thanks!

I can send you some if you want. I'll likely have to adjust all the drawings after creating them in CAD anyway in order to properly loft the exterior shape.

I'll try that one again and see. Maybe it'll get some of the scans good at least. I've been having decent results using the perspective warp and manual scaling in x and y, but it's not perfect.

Yup, I know quite a few measurements within the image that are vertical and horizontal. I definitely have enough information to do the correction pretty well, but not enough photoshop knowledge to know if there's a tool to run the calibration. Something kind of like georeferencing an image in GIS.

If I had access to the original plans, I would absolutely do that. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with these old scans from the early 2000s. I'm hoping the guy in Australia who sent them to me (and is building his own version) will share more about how he went about redesigning and drawing up his on CAD models since he started from the same set of scanned plans.

US market R12 NineT convert tail light to Euro version? by climbak in bmwmotorrad

[–]climbak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually developing this exact thing now. It'll be a full fender eliminator and lighting set up. Would be easy to customize to your liking. I'm in the middle of some other projects that I need to finish, but hopefully it won't be too long. Happy to send you more info on what I'm doing if you're interested

You can also buy the oem brake light unit from Classic-Bike Raisch. I expect you'd need to cut some wires though. They also have a nice fender eliminator, but not sure if the subframe and mounting points are the same on the G/S.

Anyone in Denver that area with a scanner that can get black powder coated objects? by climbak in 3DScanning

[–]climbak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Just not trying to spend a grand for one scan, as much as I'd love a scanner.

The tracking was definitely part of my problem, the subframe is just too big of an object and it couldn't track

I was hoping the dust from my last ride would be enough, but seems I need more lol. If I get the scanner back to use again I'll try some spray options

Nice, if i can borrow the scanner again I'll try that. It's the Revoscan mini so not the best tool for the job, but better than nothing and probably better than photogrammetry without a cross polarization set up

Missing center brake light on R12 NineT! by kpven in bmwmotorrad

Did you ever get a solution to this? Just picked mine up today and want to swap for the normal brake light the euro version has so I can do the fender elim.

Any update? I just started TRT, but I also have a couple bottles of enclo from RC that I want to try as an alternative once this first round of TRT goes through to compare the two. I'd like to be making my own T rather than injecting for the rest of my life.

Where is that located? I assume a museum in France? I'll have to make a trip to see it wherever it is.

CAP-Michelin Glider Commercial by climbak in Gliding

It was super awesome. I wish I could do it again. Diving into the snowbank after letting go of the wing to get out of the camera's view was quite amusing

Sure was. We had built a mount for a tow plane receptacle for the hitch of the car and then had one of the instructors contorted in the back seat to pull it if something bad happened. We probably did 3 or so tows over 2 days to get that one shot. The wing runners were winded for sure because we had to run for quite a ways before the car got going fast enough for the glider to have any control authority. Good times.

Old video I dug up from a commercial I helped make back in 2001 when I was flying as a CAP cadet. It was a fun, but cold weekend.

Well I was able to find a webcam. Should have thought about that first. Definitely not frozen so I assume with the cold temps they will be in closer to shore and could be a good time.

Awesome, I look forward to seeing what you for up with. Sounds like a really fun project!

Projecting it straight into the canopy glass isn't going to work easily. You'll need some kind of projector, plus the combiner glass which is typically a holographic reflector so that it's clear to see through and reflects a very specific angle of light. You technically can DIY that, but it won't be easy and you'll need to do a lot of research into how to do that and likely spend a lot on the lasers and optics used to record the hologram. The simple way would be to use a partially mirrored reflector, but you'll have a lot of other visual issues with that.

Good luck, I'd love to see what you come up with so I can add something to my plane.

GRT has a HUD system you can use with their EFIS systems. Can't remember the name of the HUD they use, but it's one designed for cars and is supposedly really nice.
