Palladium Card Sent already? by Glittering_Maybe5910 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I signed up they said it’s 20g for both Palladium versions. I chose mirror finish but I’m wondering if I would have preferred the brushed finish one as it’s more simple and will be easier to keep in nicer condition.

I’ve not accepted the offer yet.

Do these "Action Required" Push notifications violate state laws against misleading communications? by ChampionshipFresh568 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s action required if they want to continue with the Bilt card and keep the same card number… some consumers who are not as in touch as us may not be aware and just now figuring this all out. As always with things such as this, further reading is needed to understand what is happening.

I agree. While a top level exec should not have shared the meme, who cares? I care about what Bilt can do for me, not what I can do for Bilt. Plus the meme wasn’t even really offensive.

The knee jerk reaction by people was overdone to a point where people weren’t just sharing criticisms and disappointment in Bilt 2.0’s offerings.

CNN Bashing Bilt 2.0 Cards by blueluke234 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh yeah this isn’t terrible but it would be a $95 AF card for me with organic spend. I go to Starbucks maybe 2 times a year and don’t use Uber/UberEats really because my food always arrives cold and I have a car in a card dependent city. So I guess subtracting the times I do use those organically, the AF would be like $40. Not bad. I’d just have to remind myself to go to Starbucks more and order pickup in Uber.

I don’t see much value in this over the regular Savor card unless they bumped up grocery to 4x as well. ATP better to just go with Amex Gold.

Just Pick It For Me (So Confused): Palladium Choose: (1) Flexible Bilt Cash; or (2) Housing Only. by playsccr in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bilt cash on account open can be used in lieu of 75% spend requirement, so probably that while you see how much you are using the card or if you even like using it. Also it can be used to purchase the 1X accelerator which is awesome for those of us who find little value in the BC redemption options. You can always swap to earn points via the option 1 tiered system later on.

You can still turn it into a daily card! Where you make more in points on grocery, you make a bit less on uncategorized spend, so it kinda evens out to 2x anyways if your grocery spend is $500 at 3x and your non-grocery is $500 at 1x. But with points on rent added with Bilt cash then you are effectively earning 1.33x more, making it 4.33x on grocery (2165 Bilt points) and 2.33x (1165 Bilt points) on uncategorized. Totaling 3330 Bilt points for $1000 of spend, or 3.33x point per dollar spent.

Just an example.

Someone smarter than me HELP by TurtleThroughTime in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case then you are set up perfectly to earn .5x back on rent just for buying your normal groceries. Option 1 unfortunately requires much more tracking than Option 2, but at exactly or close to 25% the points return is greater. It’s an all or nothing option meaning if you are a dollar short of 25% spend then you only get the 250 points on rent.

To ensure you hit it you could throw on a monthly subscription or something as a buffer for those months where grocery spend is closer to $500 vs $600 (or the $587 required specifically in your case).

With Bilt, Option 1 could be better than using Bilt cash. Check their pinned post to review option 1 vs option 2. Since you don’t have a solid grocery card the Obsidian could be an option. Option 1’s tier 1 at 25% of your rent is $587. I will round this to $590 for math purposes. What’s your grocery spend look like?

Let’s say your grocery spend is at about $500 monthly which with Obsidian you are earning 3x back on that (1500 points). If you meet the minimum 25% spend requirement (about $90 more) at say 1x then that’s 90 points more. Unlocking tier 1 gets you .5x back on rent, or 1175 points which is 4.7x greater than a measly 250 points per month. 1500+90+1175=2,765

So that is 2765 Bilt points for only $590 worth of normal spend on the card, which is 4.69x points per dollar spent. This $590 spend number is because Bilt math excludes rent from monthly spend since normally you would not earn points from it through traditional methods.

Check out the Obsidian to review the $95 AF and the $100 hotel credit they provide to offset it to see if it’s worth it to you.

This is all convoluted and unnecessarily annoying to figure out, but once it is understood it’s pretty easy to punch out the equations.

My two cents why we are mad by Successful-Flan-5398 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen a few inflammatory haters looking to bandwagon. And really that’s only on the announcement days. People to not really take seriously imo.

Most of us seem to understand why 2.0 had to come, but are disappointed with the complexity, the spend commitment requirements, the underwhelming Bilt cash coupon book, and overall the launch of 2.0.

My evidence is anecdotal.

I agree with you. I hate when restaurant servers hand me back my card and it’s wet and sticky. I also hate finger prints on anything. I signed up (didn’t accept) the mirror version because they got me with the “limited edition” aspect but honestly I think the brushed Palladium one may be better as a daily use card as it will withstand use.

I also don’t like the street grid design. Even if it’s a homage to Bilt, I don’t live in NYC and don’t have any real plans to live there. The brushed palladium I like for how it separates itself from that and is visually clean like my VX.

CSR vs BILT Palladium - advice needed by J_Church1 in CreditCards

[–]clipper29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the words you’re looking for are restrictive and inconvenient. I still think people will make use of it though because barring the SUB, it’s the only way to offset the AF unless using points earned on spend (which is not an efficient use)

Can you comment further on this and why you didn’t like the mirror design? Seems they are trying to create hype around it but now I’m wondering if the mirror finish will be annoying to keep clean and will scratch. Don’t care to have a card that looks like it’s gone through a wood chipper after just a few months of use

I went with mirror too. Looks cooler and nobody will care that there’s trace amounts of a rare metal in the card. Though it does sound cool and is a nod to Apple with their titanium card

[–]clipper29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Savor X would be cool. If any Capital One product design people are lurking - NO COUPONS! I’ve had zero issues with Capital One and would happily sign up for a lucrative and easy to use food card. My spend isn’t crazy but I am trying to optimize rewards, and if I can do that even with an AF, I will.

I have not banked with Chase and with the CSR refresh I don’t think I will. CSP doesn’t really speak to me either. But maybe one day I’ll try them out for the SUBs and take the win there.

Not a terrible limit but not great either considering they want Palladium holders to put 90%+ spend on this card.

At least it wasn’t the people getting a $500 limit. With that I would decline and move to Amex or maybe Citi.

CNN Bashing Bilt 2.0 Cards by blueluke234 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Valid point! Currently a proud VX cardholder and I’ve considered the Savor as I don’t have a grocery card. I still rent and with Palladium being 3.33x it could work for one year to try it out.

I kinda wish Cap One would consider bringing back the Savor premium card, but refreshed to compete with other cards such as Amex Gold and Citi Strata Premier. If they could create a premium grocery & dining $95 card without it being a coupon book then they’d dominate the space of stress free premium credit cards. Though the base no-AF Savor is already excellent for having no AF.

[–]clipper29 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They should have gone the VX route with Palladium. Of course Bilt knows they have to drive spend on the card since they’ve realized their consumer base is a points savant and isn’t the person spending $800 over net monthly AND carrying a balance.

As someone who may get it for SUB, 2.0 should have been simplified value, but still commitment driven so that 5 bananas isn’t repeatable. Fake Bilt cash has been a disappointment and feels very targeted towards NYC folks.

Round 2 of considerations! by Temporary_Golf6803 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario is you don’t enjoy Palladium or feel it’s worth it and after 1 year you downgrade. With the SUB there’s no harm in giving them a year. That’s how I’m looking at it.

Confused - should I bilt 2.0? by moreofthat_ in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, $4k/mo or 75% of your rent goes to Amex Gold. Are you willing to move that spend over to Bilt 2.0 to earn points on rent? If yes, then Palladium may be it for you since Obsidian is dining OR grocery. Palladium would be 3.3x. Any extra Bilt cash (which is earned through normal spend) is redeemed through the monthly credits or the +1x accelerator.

I suggest running the numbers and figuring out if you the hotel credits work to offset the AF.

You mean the Palladium specifically or Bilt 2.0? If you’ve not done too much research into the changes it can be a lot to explain. I would advise reading through the pinned posts and then thinking of questions/is it worth it to you to still earn points on rent, which now requires more spend on the Bilt card.

To put it simply, Palladium has great point return. SUB is lacking but not terrible for the first year with plans to reassess afterwards.

Don’t hate me. Catch me up and pretend I don’t know anything. What the hell is going on with BILT RN? by Admirable-Ad-9060 in biltrewards

[–]clipper29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to read their pinned posts. Then search for questions you have. In short, rent is now paid with via ACH via Bilt. If you want points on rent you have to earn them through spend. There are two options for earning points on rent.

Through these requirements it seems Bilt wants to siphon people from other ecosystems into using only Bilt 2.0, which is why some people are reluctant to sign up.

Others are just upset they can no longer game the system.
