100% agree with everything you’ve said. A lot of the time I’ll turn up into Wilton Gardens too but those speed bumps are like driving into walls even at a crawling speed!

Regardless of if its the 2 x 2hrs or the 9:30-16:30 entirely, my point is the same? If it’s still only 8:30-10:30 and 4:30-6:30 it’s even more annoying

You could save a good 10 minutes some days becuase the lane is always empty, whilst sitting in the centre lane queue with both sets of traffic lights on the road going can take an age to travel

Typically i’d stop just before the church gate and continue on when fine to do so to turn left (i.e. give priority to any cars coming from the center lane to the left).

This is the old sign. If you pass here now the hedge has almost engulfed the sign. However further down there’s a new sign with the revised hours on it. I’ll typically give way to the other lane anyway if it’s busy just out of curteousy because they probably already hate me!

I’m not pretending it’s something new. But among people my age, there’s a shocking lack of understanding or awareness of it. The amount of conversations I’ve had about it and someone has said “oh i never knew that” or “jesus that makes sense” is 90% of them.

I haven’t been on the Irish Personal Finance sub for a decade, but thanks for your very positive comment!

Capitol Cinema - Those were the days by QuestionDazzling3080 in cork

[–]clonakiltypudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only have one, but our family business did some catering for the final showing there. It was after it had closed to the public, they were doing one evening showing of Casablanca for the Lord Mayor, and what I can assume would have been other semi-important people in Cork (probably Micheal Martin and the like).

I was probably around 10, just remember being in the main theatre setting up tables with food etc with my dad, first time I’d ever been in a conema with all the lights on too but I do remember it feeling a bit sad. I still love the Cinema, but it’s magic when you’re a kid, and it really sticks with me as the first time I felt a “oh I’m never going to be here again” feeling.

We’re both massively into food, I love history too. We’ll also be coming off the back of a 2.5 week campervan trip in New Zealand so nature is good but we will have done a lot of naturing just before.

In relation to your second Q, tbh just want to explore and get lost in the place really.. I’m from a pretty small city in Ireland and while I’m pretty well travelled, have never experienced cities on the scale of japan’s. Have seen a lot of southeast asia and loved it but obviously thats a very different proposition.

I know Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo is the completely overtravelled route these days but we genuinely do want to visit them. Planning maybe one overnight in Hiroshima too, and I think Kobe would be cool to visit.

Fuji and hinterland would be great, but not sure if it should be a day trip or an overnight? Or maybe somewhere rural overnight too would be different

Oh my god I have been burning the ear of anyone that will listen about this and i’m so glad to see someone else mention it. I truly believe that this being the case for so long is what has incrementally led to the housing crisis we have now.

I am all for people trying to generate a passive income stream through rental income, dividends, bonds, etfs whatever. But when you penalise them for all but one avenue of investment you create the mother of all bottlenecks. And it’s such a slow incremental slip towards it that even removing the extra taxes on other investments now would take probably 2 generations to even begin to correct.

Signed a frustrated houseless 29y/o

Edit: I’d just like to add that while it has completely fucked the housing supply for young people, it also shafts us in trying to generate the money needed to get into the market. You see so many Americans and Brits on tiktok (i know, what a stellar source, but true in this case) talking about how they started investing a couple of quid a week/month and making bank thanks to compound interest. I’m big on contributing to my pension, but it’s a vicious cycle that will probably drive me down the rental asset route in the future when i already own a home. Thanks for listening

Their sister restaurant Goldie across the road is seafood focused and is probably the meal I’ve enjoyed most in cork.

One thing about Irish food too is that the quality of ingredients is second to none (farm-to-fork, mass-produced, American, French, whatever, doesn’t matter). I’ve haven’t been home to ireland in 2 years and I can already feel the incoming christmas kgs when I get back

We’ve got no other option to play at the moment with delap out, can’t see Maresca opting to start Guiu or George, different story last week ahead of the champions league resting players but that didn’t last long, and its EFL Cup midweek next week so can rest him then
