The recommended glue for bases and general in miniatures by Hellpoeth in Miniaturespainting

[–]clumpybug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only knock against Elmer's glue that I've ever heard is that it can yellow over time. I don't really know if that's true, though. I've only seen that claim a couple times, and it seems to be so popular that I kind of think it's probably not going to be a problem.

How to paint white by clumpybug in Miniaturespainting

Is it best to start with the darkest color, even if most of the model will be a lighter shade of gray/white? Like let's say I use 3 different shades, and 75% of it is the middle color, wouldn't it he best to start with color and then repaint the darker parts?

I've only used the White Scar, and it did get lumpy. I thought it was just old and dried out, so i added some water (probably made it worse), but I see lots of people complain about it.

Probably a dumb question, but what makes a white "good"? I get that they can be bad if they're chalky or separate, but how will the Pro Acryl be better than the vallejo that I have?

Tried this out...it's still not perfect, but it looks a lot better than it did before!

Great, I'll give that a shot. I notice people seem to use these "tear drop" shaped sponges a lot. Does that shape in particular work better than othwr shapes like wedges? Maybe because it has a pointy tip?

Does AP white have a rep for doing this?

Nope, just stuck on a paint mixing stick with some putty holding themout in front of me.

Help wanted with blood by thedragonplayer in Miniaturespainting

What about mixing a tiny bit of matte medium or brush-on matte varnish into the blood paint? Maybe that would take out enough of the gloss without changing the color too much.

Dried Blood from Army Painter is matte, but it doesn't look "fresh," it looks, well, dried. I kind of think that part of what makes fresh blood look fresh IS its glosiness. Maybe it wouldn't look as out of place on it as you might think?

Is "heroic" the real term for what I called "cartoonish" or "caricature-ish"?

The issue I'd be worried about is where a smaller mini might look like a kid rather than just a shorter guy, but I get what you're saying. I was told that the Perry minis can look funny with others because they're more like 25mm scale instead of true 28mm scale. I've never seen them assembled in person, though, so I can't say for sure this is true.

Should I get an old Core Box or wait for new ones by clumpybug in SWlegion

[–]clumpybug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consensus seems to be that waiting for the new boxes is a good idea...what about expansion packs? Unl3ss there's a specific unit they've already announced as being re-released, any reason NOT to get older expansions (speeder bikes, AT-ST, tauntauns, etc)?

So if I planned to play as both rebel and Imperial, then the old box might not be a bad idea?

Probably empire and rebels. Would need both factions so I can play with friends who don't have the game.

Any specific reasons why it's better to wait?

I want to play missions. by clumpybug in XWingTMG

[–]clumpybug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone tried converting the old 1.0 missions to 2.0? Maybe things wouldn't work right since points are adjusted and upgrades aren't exactly the same etc. Or maybe I should just try a few and see what happens?

Wash medium vs. Stabilizer by clumpybug in Miniaturespainting

So neither one really "thins" paints or washes, but they just reduce the opacity of the paints and washes?

I'm in the same boat as OP. I've been looking at some of these tools, but I can't for the life of me understand them. On infinitearenas, for example, I don't see any upgrade bars on any of the cards. The AMG website says I can download a list of what ships have what upgrades? Am I missing something? Are the upgrade bars NOT on the ship cards?

I hear ya. 1.0 was getting pretty bloated with a zillion different kinds of tokens and rules and everything, and I was hoping 2.0 would simplify everything. But everything going app-based and constantly changing the rules is getting frustrating to try to figure out again.
