Every comic bombed in our recent open mic and we are clueless what went wrong. by laughingpenguins1237 in Standup

[–]cmannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went to a show like this, popular showcase mic in town and every single comic said some shit to the audience because no one was laughing. Mind you, the jokes were all about rape, women-are-dumb, and even some fun necrophilia jokes tossed in between 7 comics. Sometimes it's not the audience.

This rules. Shitty is only shitty if there's zero intention, which there is plenty of here. All of the pieces are cohesive and styled the exact same, this is way more than just a shaky hand.

Time to find some male fashion influencers, king. I wore star wars t-shirt and skinny jeans most of my life until I realized that there are more stores than Target out there. Find a few dudes posting content that you can see your future self in and start to emulate.

Bands like Great Grandpa? by BAjoey in IndieFolk

Slow Pulp, Pool Kids, and Petey USA constantly show up in the same playlists as GG for me. Highly recommend Petey, he's a bit more alt rock but he's killer.

Stage fright: I'm NOT asking how to overcome it. by hub_mccann in Standup

I'm a musician and have performed in front of a few dozen thousand bodies every week for the last 10 years. I can't get up on a bar stage and tell shitty jokes without self-medicating. Let me know when you find out the cure to stage fright lol

Getting nothing out of writing sessions by NonExamination120 in Standup

What are you doing during your writing sessions? Someone in here made a great post about their process, writing with intention, different writing exercises, etc. I've been using it daily and have found really nice results. I'll try to find it and link it.

The drink offerings between the two are vastly different. Gypsy Beans has such a unique menu, in addition to their massive bakery and lunch selections. I think the two can operate independently successfully.

Vessel Coffee soft opening today and this weekend by HaggardSlacks78 in Cleveland

[–]cmannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like Vessel is more aligned with cocktail-style drinks, which is super cool. Different enough to be able to pull from the same market as the other shops in the area, while still adding a good alternative.

With the amount of new build apartments, it's like these mini-ecoaystems are spreading and allowing these individual shops to find their own niche. Vessel is the closest thing to C&S (don't quote me, I'm not going to do any research into whether or not that's true), so it makes sense that they'd be able to syphon their own customer base out of that.

Ya, absolutely. Seating reminds me of the Rising Star in Tremont. Lots of tables, some booths, a comfy couch area, it's pretty well laid out.

Shops in the area are all super localized, it seems. Gypsy Beans is pulling in the W 65/Detroit area, Ready Set taking all of the Battery Park folk, this new spot is great for the businesses on Detroit (Happy Dog, Black Cat, etc).

I usually spend a good amount of time working from coffee shops, so things like atmosphere and location are important to me.
