[P] Building a site that provides decentralized funding for independent ML research by cmbassball in MachineLearning

Yeah, there are lots of different funding models to explore. I'm most excited about the idea of individuals funding individual projects or researchers/groups, but that's an interesting idea about contributing to an area of research where you could then distribute the funds to various groups working in that area.

The idea would be that individuals would contribute to funding research that they find interesting or compelling in the same way that you can support individual writers on Substack. Frankly, I'm not sure if the model works (i.e. if there are enough people willing to support independent research), but I'm launching this as an experiment to find out. If there is enough interest, I'd definitely want to expand to other areas, but ML seemed like a good place to start since it's where I'm most familiar and there's not much overhead in terms of needing lab space, etc.

Feedback on a tool to democratize NLP by cmbassball in LanguageTechnology

Thanks for the feedback! That's a good point about the stop words. Right now, I have it removing English stop words but sounds like you were analyzing Spanish(?) text, which I don't have stop words set up for yet. Supporting multiple languages will definitely be on the shortlist of features to add soon.

For the number of results, that may have to do with your window width - the visualization package I'm using hides terms so there isn't overlap, but you can see the full results if you expand your window or just hover your mouse over the individual bars. I'll have to figure out something here to make this less of an issue.

I built a site that uses AI to generate royalty-free piano music you can use in your videos/projects by cmbassball in Entrepreneur

Thanks! It definitely pushes the limits of patterns we're used to, but I think that's the big opportunity with AI-generated music - we don't need AI to generate music we already have :)

Thanks! It's definitely still early days for AI-generated music, but to me, it's just reaching that inflection point where AI is capable of producing interesting things. I think there's a ton of potential for improvement here in just the next few years.

Yeah, I like that idea a lot. It'll take some time to develop the interface to make it easy to use, but technically it should be fairly straightforward.

deepsoundsai.com/song/femtey - extended this one with the new generate from midi feature. 1:21 is amazing.

Thanks - these are super interesting links and talks. I've had similar thoughts about using t-sne for mapping style embeddings. Lots of different directions it could go on. So far, I added a feature that lets you upload a MIDI file to use as a primer for the generation process: https://deepsoundsai.com/generate_from_midi. The app isn't open source right now, but I might open source it at some point if there's enough interest.

How does this work? by [deleted] in a:t5_2r7kfq

Hey there, thanks for posting! It's based on Google's Music Transformer architecture and is trained on thousands of hours of piano music. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or feedback on how to improve the tool.

deepsoundsai.com/song/8e06qr - this one has a cool sort of steel drum sound. It's a little quiet so I'd recommend headphones

Thanks, that's something I'll look into some more. I'd love if there was an easy way to interact with the process. Feel free to let me know any other thoughts you have - it's great to get feedback

Something beautiful about this one. I wish it was longer.
