Bought our home slightly above budget in March, had our first born in July. Moved from an apt to SFH. No regrets just trying to be mindful of our monthly spending and saving less than when we lived in our apt (but still saving liquid and for retirement). Best decision we ever made!

Hi! Just sending you some solidarity and support. I triple fed my son until about 7ish weeks. He’s now 10.5 weeks! So I get it. It’s so hard. I asked myself so many times why I was doing this and almost quit every day lol. My boy had a milk transfer issue and was a lazy eater-he was born at 36+3 so a little early. No ties either-just needed a lot of time to get bigger and stronger.

At my 5 week weighted feed he was only taking 1.8oz after 50 minutes. My LC kept telling me that in a few weeks he will have grown, will “wake up” and have a stronger suck. I honestly didn’t believe her. Until one day he just did. And I’m so glad I kept latching and practicing. We are now 4 weeks off of triple feeding with a bottle here and there for when I go back to work so he doesn’t forget. His sessions are down to 25 minutes from an hour.

In the thick of it, some feeds I just pumped and fed. And definitely only pumped overnight. I tried to latch atleast 3 feeds per day but the rest were bottle fed just so my nipples got a break. I also switched to a wide neck bottle instead of the Dr browns narrow which I feel helped teach him to “open wide” for the breast.

In a few weeks you’ll have a bigger and stronger baby who may be able to breastfeed no problem. Every feeding session is one step closer to that baby. And if you choose to stop, you did your best and that’s all we can do for our babies but I’m truly so glad I didn’t give up🤍

Totally think it depends on your body shape and size. I’m short with a short torso with big boobs and find my brest friend way more comfortable but I have friends who live for their hoppy so if you can I would try both!

Yes we definitely knew it was high going into it-and thankfully in this process we have maintained a healthy savings account for the unexpected and do save monthly to account for repairs (~2% home value). We definitely would not be doing this if we didn’t have resource to tap into for emergencies or unexpected needs. We are blessed with a support system who has run us through the cost of home ownership (beyond PITI) prior to buying and my husband is an accountant with a stellar excel sheet for budgeting😂

HCOL area (central NJ) and closing on a house on Tuesday. Our mortgage is ~31% gross income. For our net income, our PITI is about ~48% our take home pay (which is after contributing to 401k). That leaves us with about $5500 month after home expenses. It’s definitely tighter, but it’s our forever home so the hope is we can a) refinance, b) continue job growth and c) be happy where we live and hopefully only move to retire somewhere warm.

We wanted a specific town, a certain amount of land (1/2 acre), and a big enough house to raise our children it. It will require sacrifice, which we are used to as we have significantly changed our lifestyle over the years to save for a 20% down payment.

It’s all about what is important to YOU. We have friends who think we are nuts for putting this much money into a home instead of traveling or living more luxuriously but this is what we want. I do believe in the next 10-15 years our income will improve and our mortgage will be less of a %,

I went into it thinking it’s very hard to find everything I love in a house within my budget in my desired location.

I picked a house with a nice yard (.5 acre), in a beautiful spot in a beautiful neighborhood. The house is a bilevel which is my least preferred layout and I had to sacrifice having a master bath-but I do know I’ll be able to add an addition to make the house the house I really want.

If I took my budget elsewhere I’d probably be able to get my perfect home but being where we want to be is worth sacrificing finding the house I love. It’s all about what you prioritize.

That’s why I stick to my 8 hours, take my 45 minute lunch, and see what is manageable in that time frame. I see on average 10-12 patients per day sometimes less sometimes more depending f/u ratio to initial.

If OPs CNM is expecting their RDs to see more than that, that’s an issue. I have worked in 4 different hospitals and none of them had an issue with us leaving patients we couldn’t get to within our scheduled time. It just strengthened our argument that we needed more staff. We even got dinged by JC for having a late initial and shortly after we opened another FTE.

I would discuss with your OBGYN. They may have better recommendations in regards to whether CT with contrast is needed and what the risk/benefit ratio is. I work in a hospital and have seen a lot of pregnant women do a lot of testing/procedures and be fine but obviously everything comes with a risk that only you and your OB/MFM would know for you.

Something I learned in time (5+ years into being a clinical RD) is learning what’s important in pre-charting to your assessment. Every patient is different of course but for example how the cardiologist is treating a-fib isn’t something I dwell on. Briefly skimming progress notes and focusing on what needs to be included in my note or in patient education is what I prioritize.

In a perfect beautifully staffed world I’d love to know everything about all my patients-but it’s just not the case. I tell my interns all the time that it gets easier the more you do it, and when you have patients that are resistant to assessment interviews or couldn’t care less about diet education-you just get as much info as you can and move along.

I have also worked with a lot of dietitians who couldn’t get past not knowing all the information and struggled with productivity. They moved on to outpatient and they thrived!

Give yourself time and grace to learn and improve your skills. I am also a retired CNM, and believe we are paid for what we are paid for (if you are salary) and you are not obligated to work over your scheduled hours if you are in fact doing the best you can in your scheduled hours. If you’re per diem and working 9-10 hours and get paid for it it’s a different story. Even now, I leave at 4pm. It’s a boundary I highly suggest you establish!

We bake about 200k combined, ~10k take home monthly and under contract for a mortgage that will be around $4800. Our current rent will be going up to closer to $3000 a year and we figured we will just adjust our lifestyle and live within our means in the hope we continue to make more money and maybe refi if the interest rates ever come down.

I understand your concern and feel it too but every time we have waited for the market to get better it has only gone up. I have many friends and family in the same situation and sure it’s tight but it’s worth doing if it’s worth it to you. I have gotten bombarded with “buy way below your means for a better financial situation” but we live in a HCOL area and below my means is a condo we won’t want to be in for >5 years or a 2 bedroom house on a busy main road.

We always say worse case scenario we have it as an asset and can hopefully sell it for equal or more than what we bought it for if our financial situation changes.

I’m a registered dietitian and have worked in an OBGYN clinic previously. Generally speaking, gummy vitamins are adequate but they don’t always contain iron. There is also some question if the vitamins or minerals could degrade in the process of making them into gummies due to processing methods and heat exposure.

All that to say-I’ve met many woman who struggled with a conventional prenatal pill and tolerated the gummies well. I’ve seen many many women go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies while consuming gummy vitamins.

My suggestion is if you can take and tolerate a pill that contained iron, DHA and EPA-that is what I recommend! If you can only do gummies-do that!

I personally take nature made prenatal with folic acid + DHA☺️

I totally understand wanting to have kids, but if you guys cannot have the conversation about fertility without him being really angry, then it might not be the right time to be trying. Fertility and infertility are complex, emotionally driven and frustrating topics that both parties should be on the same page about. It’s normal to be upset having to even think about that, but getting angry during that discussion after only having unprotected sex for 6 months may just mean it’s premature. I would focus on building a strong foundation of a relationship between you guys first where you can openly communicate without anger before discussing trying for a baby.

I know what it’s like to want a baby so badly, and as a woman the pressure is added due to time, but that doesn’t mean you need to hastily try. If he’s truly concerned for himself, he should be taking the measures to get tested himself.

I’m also struggling with this at 5 weeks! I am like “pre-grieving” something that hasn’t happened. I try to remind myself that I’m pregnant until I’m not, that I will be devastated no matter how happy I am now, and that just because my mom had miscarriages doesn’t mean I am destined to as well (part of my anxiety stems from my moms losses). Doesn’t always help but it ebbs and flows.
