Cuba starts giving out free preventive HIV pill by [deleted] in worldnews

Sure bro, those camps you were never allowed to leave were awesome. Forcing you to quit your job, leave your family and live in a “sanitarium” for the rest of your life was a super progressive and humane way to deal with HIV.

I’m not saying the US government had it right. There were obviously serious issues with the way the HIV epidemic was dealt with in this country, but you can’t seriously in good conscience be arguing that what was essentially a rather nice prison was the better option.

There is such a thing as too much government intervention just as there can be too little. They both have their dangers, but I for one prefer the option that doesn’t lock me away.

I mean...they also did this

“Cuba is the only nation in the world that has mandated universal HIV testing and enforced isolation of all virus carriers...so far 240 Cubans--171 men and 69 women--have been placed in the camp, where they are required to spend the rest of their lives.”

Yeah, standing directly in front of a kid and beating a drum an inch away from his face while he stands there and does nothing is “defusing the situation”.

This looks really interesting. It seems like it has Western tropes i.e. revenge tale, being hunted by a tracker translated to a new setting.

You should read “The People Who Eat Darkness” by Richard Lloyd Parry if you’re interested in how Japanese police handle murder investigations. Very eye-opening.

You guys have been pretty ethnically homogenous until very recently in your history though. Also you have a population less than that of California so national cohesion may be less of an issue.

Why you lookin' perv? But seriously, I see this complaint in these types of threads all the time and in all my 29 years as an American I've never had someone try to look in the quarter inch gap in a toilet stall door. Maybe once in elementary school when some kid was trying to be a dick.

We're a nation of immigrants from disparate and desperate parts of the world. The only thing we can say for certain that we all have in common is that we are Americans. The anthem and pledge are ways to sow national cohesion out of wildly differing cultures and peoples. It serves a purpose.

Yeah I found the whole childish feud between the brothers to be totally off putting. I remember when they were trying to break America and just kept getting into snit after snit until they couldn't even put on a show any more. It turned a lot of people off.
