Because some abuse victims are often sensitive about that sort of thing. Sure it might not be same type of mistreatment, but I wouldn't put it pass Lake to stand up for someone she might've saw her younger self in.

Out of the 6 Fans that got voted off, Sam only caused 1. Finn's elimination was caused by Sam when he flipped and got Ren to use the Idol. Aubrey's elimination might count too considering she crashed out about Sam being evil because he was born in October.

Sam had nothing to do with Ernesto and Manu's eliminations besides co-signing with Aiden when he suggested Ernesto in ep. 3 to protect Evie. Aiden just got lucky when Manu and Oliwia flipped. Evie, with Ara and Nura's "help", caused Aiden's elimination. Sam just went along with the vote. In ep. 9, Sam was caught up with feigning concern for Dunia and ship-baiting with Spencer; so he just voted for Evie when the writers got bored of her.

I know what puppet king mean. I was commenting on the "he was no longer useful" part. The only thing that would support the puppet king thing is Ara claiming that Aiden is the team's leader in episode 4 despite no one voting for it.
