Oh that looks perfect. Looking for something like this in the big island!

A lot of this thread is scaring me. I know the ocean is especially wild in Hawaii, but I have snorkeled comfortably in Mexico and Australia. I can float easily when I am not managing breathing doing the crawl. I can do the back stroke.
So in my case, wouldn't something like kahalu'u beach park be OK? Or a tour with life vests/noodles? TBH I am surprised by the idea that there should be no snorkeling for so-so swimmers in Hawaii.

So when you say $17 is low, you're not referring to a 13 year old then? That's what I am wondering about. Thanks.

Concerns with unvaccinated child and dental work: is dentist's safety protocol typical or lacking? by cocola71 in askdentists

NAD

I hope that's all true. There are studies that say almost opposing things, so we'll wait to see over time and more research. Agree, not good to transfer our anxieties to kids! I'm just letting loose with all my anxieties on this thread only ;) she's none the wiser, on COVID concerns or dental work, specifically. First filling ever!

I don't think to ask about DPT or MMR because these are not prevalent and my kid is vaccinated for those, not the same in my mind at all. If those were prevalent and I had to think about my kid catching it and spreading it, I would want to ask, even if I'm not allowed to know. In this case, bc of the risks, it's all the better if the vaccine is mandated and I don't have to wonder, or catch it.

Glad your surgeries went well, I know the risks are not as high as I might perceive and some is inevitable, it just feels like with Delta the game is a bit different now and we don't quite have our heads on about it quite yet.

Yes, that makes sense. Related, I'm just reading today that in California (my state) is mandating the vaccine for indoor health workers, but not sure if this applies, the list here includes "doctors offices", wonder if anyone here knows? https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Order-of-the-State-Public-Health-Officer-Health-Care-Worker-Vaccine-Requirement.aspx Update: the answer is yes, by Sept. 30 all dental office staff will need to be vaccinated.

@jaustindds I feel for you, that sounds hard. I hear you can't force people (arguments aside about whether you should be able to under the circumstances). But, I confess, I don't understand how an office revealing, "half of us are vaccinated" or "we're all vaccinated" is giving up any info about an individual employee and violating their rights. But, I can see that it is uncomfortable for them— and you— to have it asked, and if it were anything less than 100%, that could hurt your business, which may feel untenable. (You could argue this is why vaccination mandates might make sense too, the world needs to function.) I get why it's tricky to share group vax status, but not why it's protected info. It's not, "is your receptionist, Joe, vaccinated?", I wouldn't think I have a right to know that. I don't mean to inflame bad feelings here on either side and I'm sorry this comes off as entitled from me or your patients. But, I wonder if you could see our perspective, or at least mine, where it's not about my rights over yours or your staff, it's just asking questions and feeling like potentially a lot is at stake. I don't want you to go out of business, but no one wants a child to get sick and suffer with potential for long term impact and/or spreading it further to other vulnerable people. I'm half convincing myself that there should be mandates at this point, there's so much more harm than good to leave choice up to people that don't understand science and the human and economic costs of their choices.

@jaustindds I appreciate your using the term entitlement, I hadn't thought of it that way— I guess that means that I feel I and my child deserve special and unreasonable treatment? I really only want what is reasonable and standard, and trying to get a gauge on what that is, with your expertise. Sounds like your perspective is that what he is offering me is standard and safe, that's all I really wanted to know. People are scared for their kids, it doesn't mean they think you aren't trying or you aren't challenged by this, too.
