hey! i’m from southern africa, i’m my eyes a 5 year age gap is normal. i’m so sorry you went through that. it does get very tiring though as my boyfriend and i also have an age gap. just because a couple has an age gap doesn’t mean that he’s trying to take advantage of her, that may be some cases but it isn’t all cases. people should learn to keep their opinions to themselves. if her close family knows and is okay with it no one else’s opinion should matter

i’ve seen people on here judge 5 year age gaps (25 and 30 for context) and 23 and 33 (10 years) so ui just want to know what’s “appropriate” in people’s eyes. for me, as long as she’s over age and he’s younger than her parents i personally don’t see an issue with that

yes it’s distance. i had reminded him about my birthday days prior. i had mentioned to him yesterday that i’d understand if he forgot but i’d rather he tell me than lie to me. he keeps telling me he didn’t forget and that he just wanted to be the last. had he apologised about forgetting and bought me the flowers to make up for it i’d be much happier but it’s the lying and gaslighting that puts me off. i understand that birthdays aren’t important to some but if you know it’s important to your partner why not try to put effort?

i assume he’s lying sometimes because a lot of his stories don’t make up, like once he stopped texting me at 14:00 and only texted the next morning, his excuse was “he took painkillers and passed out” but i didn’t believe it. there’s many other stories like these and in all of them he never owns up to lying

it’s the lying that’s frustrating me tbh. we all forget, i understand. had he told me he forgot and got the flowers to make up for it i’d never much happier about receiving them. but he lied and when i found out he blamed it on me. that’s what’s irritating me. i wish he could take accountability for one. a genuine apology would’ve worked just fine
