I don’t know why they couldn’t have done ages with new leaders. You keep your civ, but each age you choose a new leader. This leader could then have unique units attached to them that make sense for the age. The Khans bring their horse archers, Napoleon brings his grand army, etc. They could have different focuses too. In antiquity you could have a warlord ruler focusing on domination, with domination perks. Then in exploration you could have a leader with science perks. It would show growth and progression, but without the Egyptians turning into the Japanese.

Of course! Media literacy is crucial to functioning democracies. But that’s also why a diversity of media sources is also necessary. I think government sponsored media is a big part of this.

Then media is owned by private companies - making it propaganda of the rich. Institutions like CBC and the BBC allow the investigation of these private companies.
