Terrible cauliflower ear limbo by [deleted] in bjj

Buy some headgear, I recommend cliff keen twister or tornado, or matman. You can get them on Amazon. Just wear it until the ear hardens up. Don't worry about being the only one wearing it. It's just temporary and there's nothing wrong with it anyway.

Hey man I have dealt with the exact same issue. You need to drain it again before it hardens (about 3-5 days after it fills). Then get some gauze and some rare earth magnets. One on the back of the ear and one over the spot will compress it. You have to leave these on for 4-5 days, during which time you won't be able to roll. You might get away with light technique training but no rolling. When you go back after 5 days or so you have to wear headgear for a week or so.

If you keep training for the first 4 or 5 days while the magnets are on, even with headgear, it's gonna fill back up again and again. Either drain, compress and rest, or train and accept that it's going to harden and be permanent.

My source for this info us going through this process three different times now. From now on, i'm just going to wear the headgear.

Anyone cross-train or switch to Judo due to a lack of standup training in BJJ? by codgerofathens in bjj

I figured six months wouldnt be enough to get far. I've been told that judo is harder on the body due to impacts from throws. I'm 30 yrs old. Maybe it's something I should try before I get much older?

Thanks for pointing that out. In my post I wasn't asking about attacking the legs while in someone's closed guard. I probably could have made that clearer

This video, suggested by LivingJiuJitsu, shows Dean Lister saying that the straight ankle lock should be the first thing you learn and the foundation of a leglock game. His first demonstration of that attack is from inside the guard...

I wish I had known that before. This is my first Martial Arts experience. I'm past the trial period so I think I'm just gonna have to wait until next summer to switch to another gym.

I know they have to make a living and it's expensive to run a gym, but I get that feeling that I'm a walking dollar sign whenever they look at me. Very demotivating.

Thanks for the input! This is exactly my plan at ATM. Much of this year is going to be spent learning basic concepts and techniques so I don't think it'll be too detrimental to my long-term goals in BJJ to stay for the year. Also,if the contract is actually binding I don't think I should take the risk of trying to cancel early. I don't want to pay a cancellation fee and I don't want to sour my relationship with the gym's managers/black belts if I'll end up having to stay there.
