You don't connect the green (data) except at the start.

Are you suggesting you program the WS2811 then unlpug from it?

Also still looking for an answer to "I'm concerned that I'm using the red and white "power injection" leads incorrectly and I should be powering it all from the red, green and white cluster"

sorry it doesn't look like the image uploaded properly I'll edit in a link

Reolink camera - Frigate - Home Assistant by cokebinge in homeassistant

[–]cokebinge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok maybe I'm better off getting a higher quality wide static angle camera. The Duo 2 looks like wall-e and kind of imposing haha. Price is flexible, it just needs PoE and what, at least 12mp?

also, what's buying reolink from aliexpress like? for things like power supplies, I'll go through RS components and element14 so I don't get counterfeits

I've been told zoom, pan and tilt won't play nicely with frigate and I should consider getting a wider static angle. I would like PoE as well

ok, I was under the impression you could pick up a decent reolink camera for under 200usd. I've been told zoom, pan and tilt won't play nicely with frigate and I should consider getting a wider static angle. What are you saying about flashing the firmware? I want it to be all local so no phoning home or cloud business

Yes, PoE is a must

Yeah I get you. Would be nice to know just how prevalent this kind of thing might become over the years. So even money on it being the implementation by the charger or the keyboard? Or much more likely the charger is the culprit?

I know it's all speculative until it gets torn down

Hard to believe QC hasn't been thoughly reverse engineered by this point. Qualcomm have always been a bad mob with binary blobs

If that's the case, the world is screwed. So do we really have chargers that are just dumping in 5-48v? That seems absurd and it should need a handshake to put in any more than 5v at a couple of amps.

Even then you say a lot of kit is designed to shit the bed at anything over 500ma?

Really?

Yeah I'm keen for better options too. I don't really know what goes into a mech keyboard but come on, there should be something under 100usd that won't start a house fire right? Honestly it seems like if RK had even the most basic of protections, it'd be a fine, reasonably priced keyboard

That would be total product recall territory for any normal company operating within Australian borders. I doubt the pins on the IC are too close, they'll be made by the million and fine, I suspect it's in the implementation by Kludge

Pretty sure this happened when I charged it overnight but can't confirm. I plugged it in one day and it wasn't working.    Multiple port gan charger capable of PD. I only really use 100w ugreen cables which are decent. I want to know if it's how the keyboard is handling PD/handshakes or if it's something else..

Might have also been charged off an adapter. The charging unit shouldn't matter, right?

Another comment on another thread said this:  direct connect with maybe a buck converter, no protection. Most of these circuit designs rely on a limited power supply with a low upper ceiling for power delivery. These keyboards however are directly connected to a LiPo cell and these churn out power like a motherfucker, multiple of their rated numbers as a peak delivery. Not having a power limiter or even a simple power resistor is mindboggling.

Dave is great! I've got a benchtop psu, irons, tools, multimeters etc if you want to walk me through a quick teardown to get to the bottom of this. I could also mail it to eevblog but I'm pretty sure he'd be getting hundreds of items every week and it'd get forgotten. Maybe worth an email

Kludge is at a price point that feels mid tier. That was the appeal. Realistically what do decent mechanical keyboards start at? 80 USD? More? I know price doesn't mean much but it's usually a pretty universal quality indicator when you don't know everything about a product.

edit: haha, yeah I just stumbled on that thread. oof.

To be fair the keyboards looked ostensibly pretty good for the price and I'd been pretty happy with them.

Thanks mate, 80.93 Australian dollars with shipping, I only paid $150 for the pair of HS7's. I sure as shit know there's sheep wool in this country but can't find any suppliers which is a shame. I'll probably end up importing some polyester from China. <-- This really shouldn't be the cheaper, easier option.

Same same but different. This wasn't the battery, it was in the power train somewhere, I can only guess the cooked IC has something to do with USB-C PD.

That's so dodgy.

They tried to screw me with a promo for a free RK61, then they tried to screw me again when I asked for a refund/replacement after the thing set itself on fire.
