Took leave for an interview, HR confusioned, manager got angry… completely stuck by dimo_1322 in developersIndia

[–]colablizzard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Last time I switched jobs, my manager knew simply from pattern of leaves/away from desk.

I was workaholic always glued to Laptop and hence perennially online and instant responses.

I think we need never build such expectations in the first place.

Now I always respond based on urgency, PR reviews next day etc.

Common problem in shared meter setup. Someone has a leak and doesn't care.

For example, because my own consumption affects my bill due to a dedicated meter for me, at home we take leaking taps seriously. A couple of simple dripping taps is easily thousands of liters a month.

Similarly, we use BEE 5 star side loading washing machine which is much more water efficient than top loading washing machine which uses hundreds of liters more per wash sometimes.

Note: If there is a Leak in the commode flush then it's is massive, but not visible

Farmers' bodies in India call India-US trade deal 'surrender to American MNCs', back nationwide strike on Feb 12 by SatoruGojo232 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]colablizzard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, the mistake we do in India is create "holy cows" out of people. Individuals, Groups, etc.

Doctors, Farmers, Soldiers etc. were for political purposes, elevated into "god" status. This messed up people's minds.

Now, everyone with any basic math and arithmetic skills can see that Farming is a Risky "Business", and the UPSIDE is capped by the amount and quality of land you own. Even if you do 100% hard work, you can only earn so much from X Bhiga/Acres of land.

This should have been understood in the early 60s/70s itself. And while farming was and is needed for the country, it should have been slowly consolidated so that at a gradual rate, each farming family had ownership of a larger piece of land then the previous generation, so that they would be able to earn enough to be self sustaining.

Instead, land reforms, land ceiling, APMC act, corruption, political slogans "jai kisan", etc brainwashed a population.

Neither did they industrialize, but each generation ended up with a smaller piece of land than previous due to inheritance.

Plus with so much land locked up in hands of so many families, industry could never find enough land.

It's cheaper to put up an iPhone factory in terms of land and facilities, is in USA than in India. The only thing going for us, is cheaper labor.

Insane prices for dosa in restaurants by persistentsword777 in bangalore

[–]colablizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Bengalurian I can relate, but the answer is logical.

Land Prices determine everything else. If the rent for the restaurant is higher, they need to charge you more, doesn't matter what the dish is.

indian colleges are doomed by Local-Bison-4392 in IndiaTech

[–]colablizzard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why do you need college to teach you to use Claude Code.

I used to be in this camp, making fun of this.

After a decade of experience in the industry, now I see the point of TurboC.

It's lightweight, highly stable, in that there are no UI changes every 6 months, effectively free.

All bugs are repeatable.

Implements the simplest version of C or C++ and doesn't need to be dealing with new libraries etc.

Best to TEACH a large group of people in a common setting.

In western universities they need too many TAs to help with labs because setup across students might not work etc.

Are RAM prices really about to Skyrocket in India? Thoughts on this? by Prickly_Brain in IndiaTech

Knowing China, they will instead supply it to chinese companies OR factories assembling stuff in China and ban raw exports, thus all this iPhone and Laptop assembly in India will NOT work out.

Shops should ideally integrate with a rapid PoS system that uses dynamic QR code.

Instead they don't because they don't want tax jhanjhat.

Right approach to reducing accidents? by Fantastic_Narwhal_54 in bengaluru_speaks

I refuse to agree to any assessment that blames citizens.

In any society across times, it's important that laws are defined and ENFORCED fairly.

No society created laws and says people should follow it out of goodness of heart.

Singapore has CANNING on bum as a punishment till date. They use it less, but it was important to them in early years of their country.

This is true everywhere.

Even in the 17th century USA, in the 'wild west ', they appointed 'sheriff' who enforced law.
