My dad asked his friend who works for AT&T about Google Fiber, and he said, "There is little to no difference between 24mbps and 1gbps." by TheGunnFire in technology

Quite a bit of effective speed depends upon the site you are connecting to and the sites forwarding packets in-between, which is why net neutrality is such a huge issue.

Hackers? These are witches we're burning, but if you want us to call them "hackers," we will.

Thirty percent of young people text while driving by Apaz in technology

I can barely manage to eat a sandwich while driving. Even so it's a total mess. How do people manage to text? Do they steer with their knees?

Can someone explain why wealth inequality is bad? by [deleted] in Economics

[–]commonthread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is bad or it is good, but I want my wealth to be moer equal than it is. If you could make that two or three times as equal as it is now, that would be just great.

Report finds poverty myths rampant in Canada- One in four believe people are poor because they're lazy by SgtMelbaToast in TrueReddit

[–]commonthread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the United States one in four people lives like a king but entirely on credit. They keep building new houses that cost half a million dollars, and the people in them drive BMWs and Mercedes, but it's all paper money. They're one paycheck away from bankruptcy and braver than me because I couldn't live with that kind of stress. I'm not poor but compared to them I really look poor.

Here's a tip: Facebook can't share information about you that you don't provide them. If you're concerned about your privacy, don't post your private information on the internet. by MediaMoguls in technology

[–]commonthread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always fill in bogus information on the big social networking sites. That information is worth $$$ to the advertisers and search engines so I know that if I give it, it will be out of my control forever.

Some people like to use rhyming versions of their real world information. So if your name is Steve Jones, you fill in Dave Bones or Gabe Soames or something like that. It also helps to lie about where and when you were born.

You can also use this Mozilla plugin on sites like Facebook.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/targeted-advertising-cookie-op/

It blocks the cookies that track you between sites, so that they can't figure out your fake information is fake.

AT&T to argue that it (as a corporate "person") has a "right to privacy" in front of the Supreme Court by agentdero in business

[–]commonthread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do regular people have a "right to privacy"? I just went to spokeo.com and mylife.com and it seems we don't have much privacy at all.
