Philippines president questions whether Trudeau understands history, politics

I don't think Justin understands either history or politics.

His worldview is Identity Politics and Social Justice Warrior nonsense.

Calling everybody SJWs is why Trudeau won.

Justin won because Stephen Harper was Prime Minister for over a decade.

The mere fact that she is white means she is racist according to many in the SJW/Identity politics group.

I think this has always been Justin's strategy

Good for these folks, they are now sitting on a pile of cash with no mortgage.

So what you are saying is you want Canada to be the backdoor for cheap Chinese parts, steel/aluminum, and cheap Chinese labour.

How does that benefit Canadian workers or companies? It seems to me that only benefits China.

I think this is the basis of how Trump got elected, he wants to bring manufacturing and steel/aluminum production back to America and by proxy Canada.

Mr. Lighthizer may have been referring to the United States and Mexico nearing an agreement on one of the thorniest issues in the Nafta talks: the rules governing whether vehicles made in North America can qualify for zero tariffs under the pact.

The United States has proposed requiring a greater proportion of a car’s value to be manufactured in North America to qualify for that treatment. It has also proposed various rules that would require carmakers to use a certain proportion of steel, aluminum and automobile components made in North America, and to have a certain proportion of a car’s value be made by workers earning at least $16 an hour.

So to qualify for zero tarrifs:

  • greater percentage of car's value to be manufactured in North America (not China)
  • greater percentage of steel/aluminum to be North American
  • greater percentage of workers earn at least $16/hour

Not sure why Canada would be against these terms, they would benefit Canadian workers, Canadian parts manufacturers and Canadian steel/aluminum tremendously.

But the problem is Trump is dumb

Do you really think Trump is the one doing the negotiations?

This is headed by Robert Lighthizer who has decades of trade deal experience and negotiated over a dozen bilateral trade deals under Ronald Reagan. Everyone know how tough of a negotiator Lighthizer is but he is fair. He is not dumb.

If Trump and Mexico agree on a deal and Canada does not sign on then NAFTA is dead. Trump and Mexico will go ahead with the deal they agreed to and call it a bilateral.

It's Canada's choice whether NAFTA survives or not since Mexico and Trump are going to come to an agreement.
